NXT Inquest 4/10/19 (Street Profits vs Aichner/Barthel)

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the NXT Inquest with Marc Madison here on ProWrestlingPost.com. In an effort to continue to bring you the readers more content, and to help you out in the event that you missed your favorite wrestling program, we have now added a rundown of the latest in NXT. On the first NXT after NXT TakeOver: New York, fans are introduced to change. There is a new NXT champion, new contenders, and a new direction for the brand.

The program highlighted what took place at NXT TakeOver: New York. Among the highlights shown from that show were some from the WALTER/Dunne NXT UK Championship match, some from the NXT Tag Team Championship match, some from the NXT Women’s Championship match and of course several from the NXT Championship match. Johnny Gargano is coming home, and he is bringing the NXT championship.

As the new NXT theme sung by Slipknot played, the opening promo for the brand gets the show started.

Candice LeRae vs. Aliyah

In a match that resulted from a backstage incident between the two, this match was an opportunity for Aliyah, but also represented something more for Candice. The two women begin to jockey for position, and the ‘Bougie Princess’ taunted LeRae. She then attempted to play to the crowd but received a Bronx cheer even though they were in Brooklyn. Vanessa Bourne also proved to be a distraction for LeRae during this match. At one point in the match, Aliyah got the upper hand on Mrs. Wrestling, and though LeRae tried to change the direction of the match Aliyah had the answer every time. This match was all about setting the stage for one of these women to be considered a title contender down the line. In the end, LeRae hit a Lionsault onto Aliyah and got the pin. LeRae appeared to tweak her knee on the move, which could be something they use or simply let go. A match against Vanessa Bourne is likely on the horizon.

Winner: Candice LaRae

A recap is shown of Matt Riddle and Velveteen Dream’s match, and the effort both men put into it. The two men showed respect for one another, and a video by the Velveteen Dream is shown where he discusses his victory. He then made a comment antagonizing former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy. This set up an NXT North American championship match between Velveteen Dream and Buddy Murphy next week.

After the commercial, a special NXT exclusive footage focussed on the NXT tag team match from TakeOver, featuring all involved. Mauro Ranallo ran down how the match was better than anyone could have anticipated. Both teams bowed to one another as a sign of respect after the match. The match marked the end of Ricochet’s and Aleister Black’s time in NXT.

Another special moment that was shown was the arrival of KUSHIDA, who was in the audience, at TakeOver. A WWE.com exclusive was shown, which featured WWE officials Triple H and William Regal making the Japanese star’s signing official. KUSHIDA is working on his English and was able to convey his thoughts at the signing

Danny Burch vs Jaxson Ryker

In this one-on-one match between Danny Burch and Jaxson Ryker of the Forgotten Sons, it was all about how hard you can get hit and keep going. From the opening bell, Burch took the fight to Ryker right away. Burch is referred to as a bulldog during the match, while Ryker was referred to as a monster, which is a rather clever way to identify their differing skills and physical assets. It really appears as though Ryker is being billed to be the singles challenger from the Forgotten Sons group. Ryker no sold Burch’s offense at times in the match, showcasing his strength. After a short bout, Ryker hit the widowmaker, a chokeslam mixed with a sit-out powerbomb to finish off the Englishman. After the match, Ryker attempted to do it again only to have Burch’s tag team partner Oney Lorcan come in an attempt to stop him. This resulted in a three on two advantage for the Forgotten Sons, and Burch and Lorcan were left lying in the ring.

Winner: Jaxon Ryker

Highlights of the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT TakeOver were shown, a match in which Shayna Baszler was successful and retained her title. In a post-match interview for WWE.com, Baszler, flanked by Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, declared that she is never losing the title.

After a quick break, highlights of the NXT UK Championship match were shown, a match in which a new champion was crowned after 685 days, as champion Pete Dunne was unsuccessful in finishing off WALTER. A video was shown of Dunn was shown wherein he was asked for his thoughts on the match, to which he responded that there will be a rematch.

This was followed by highlights of Johnny Gargano’s NXT championship win in a 2 out of 3 falls match against Adam Cole. Ranallo referred to Gargano as once being a ‘chubby 8-year-old kid’ which is probably meant to show how far he’s come. They recap each fall, and how the two men split the first two falls, with the third and final fall being the most dramatic. It was an incredible showcase for both men. Just as it appeared as though outside interference by all the Undisputed Era members would turn the match in Cole’s favor, in the end, it didn’t prevent Gargano from winning, as he made his opponent submit. After the win, Tomasso Ciampa was there to greet him at the entranceway. Afterward, cameras were watching as there was a little bit of bickering between Cole and fellow Undisputed Era member Roderick Strong, but Cole demanded they be turned off.

Street Profits vs Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel

Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford could be headed in the direction of the NXT Tag team championships sooner rather than later. The ‘Sultans of Swag’ took on the European Union, a talented team that has been very impressive in both NXT and NXT UK. The match goes about seven minutes with the Street Profits finishing off Aichner and Barthel with an Avalanche Blockbuster.

Winners: Street Profits
