NWA-TNA PPV 48 | NWA-TNA/IMPACT Sunday Night RetroView

On Wednesday, June 4, 2003, NWA-TNA presented NWA-TNA PPV 48 in the latest of our NWA-TNA/IMPACT Sunday Night RetroViews. Outside, Kevin Northcut, the new TNA director of security, lets NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett know that his actions won’t be tolerated anymore.

Jarrett wants Northcut to tell the guys in the ivory tower to tell that to his face.

Backstage, Glen Gilbertti led a prayer with S.E.X. faction about winning the title and bringing Vince Russo back to the group.

Damien, Johnny Swinger & Kid Romeo vs. CM Punk, Matt Stryker & Frankie Kazarian.

Romeo and Stryker kick off the match with some basic wrestling. Stryker hits a nice spinning leg lariat on Romeo before tagging in Kazarian. Romeo hits a wheelbarrow bulldog on Kazarian for a near fall and tags in Swinger.

Kazarian drops Swinger with a dropkick and a couple of arm drags. Punk gets tagged in and comes off the top with a strike across Swinger’s arm. Punk delivers a high knee in the corner, but Swinger comes back with the Mood Swing for a two-count!

CM Punk counters a back suplex attempt and lands on top for a near fall. Damien makes his debut with Punk taking him down with headlocks. Swinger tags back in, but Punk gets control with an arm drag.

Stryker Thez Presses Swinger to deliver a series of right hands. Romeo knee lifts Stryker but is knocked off the apron. Swinger plants Stryker with a sit-out powerbomb for a two-count!

Swinger atomic drops Stryker, and Romeo hits a springboard clothesline for a near fall. Romeo works over Stryker with a clothesline in the corner, but Stryker counters a monkey flip with an overhead suplex.

Damien gets the tag and punches all three opponents. Damien hits a Perfect Plex, but Stryker kicks out at two. Stryker nearly pins Damien with an inside cradle, but Damien takes Matt over with a nice suplex for a near fall.

Swinger works over Stryker in the corner with a series of strikes. Kazarian gets tagged in and drops Johnny with a few clotheslines. Kazarian hits a springboard back elbow for a two-count.

Damien gets tagged back in, but Kazarian hits a neckbreaker/DDT combo on Damien and Swinger! Kazarian takes Swinger out with a dive over the top on the floor! Punk enters and kicks Romeo in the chest.

Punk backdrops Damien over the top onto Swinger and Kazarian. Punk follows up with a dive to the floor as well! Romeo gets in on the dives, and Stryker is left in the ring. Stryker takes everyone out with a springboard moonsault!

Stryker and Swinger are in the ring, with Swinger hitting the Swinger Stinger. Punk plants Swinger with the Gory Bomb! Romeo with the Kiss Goodnight on Punk. Stryker plants Romeo with a Death Valley Driver. Kazarian puts Damien away with the Wave of the Future, goes for a pinfall, and gets the 1-2-3!

Winners: CM Punk, Matt Stryker & Frankie Kazarian.

Backstage, Raven lets us know that Jarrett managed to get a number-one contender match without him in it. He believes TNA has been successful because of the path of destruction he has created.

Backstage, “Cowboy” James Storm and “Wildcat” Chris Harris shake hands. Storm wonders about Harris picking his partner for the match later tonight. Harris is going to pick his partner in the ring. They continue to tease the breakup of the team.

Before the next match, Sonny Siaki talks about the women getting excited to see him and wanting him to take his clothes off. He is tired of being treated like a piece of meat and being a pretty boy. He is the baddest son of a b**ch in wrestling, period.

He is now going to be the “Ace in your Face.” He isn’t afraid of Sandman and says that he is nothing to him. He will shove his cane up Sandman’s ass next time. Here comes Sandman, but security comes out to prevent that from happening.

Sonny Siaki vs. The Vampire Warrior

Hard Ten Match

Siaki tries to attack before the bell, but that doesn’t work. Warrior uses a trash can lid to get a quick point. Warrior follows up with a bulldog onto the lid on the floor. Warrior uses a trash can to get a four-point lead.

Warrior gets a 5-0 with an overhead suplex onto a trash can lid. Siaki uses a kendo stick, and Warrior crashes through a table. Siaki kicks the trash can into Warrior’s head to get a 7-5 lead.

Warrior plants Siaki with an Implant DDT but goes for a cover that means nothing in this match. Siaki with a swinging neckbreaker off the apron through a table on the floor.

Winner: Sonny Siaki

After the match, Sandman enters the ring and hits Sonny Siaki with a kendo stick.

Earlier on that day, Mike Tenay conducted a sit-down interview with Raven. He puts over his feuds with Dreamer and Sandman as being the best ever and how WCW paid him thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of wrestling shows.

He’d rather quit WCW than be abused by Eric Bischoff. He believes he was shit on while in WWF. Tenay notes that the Raven/Jarrett pay-per-view was the highest-viewed pay-per-view in TNA history.

Raven thinks that Jeff Jarrett’s headlining the company is embarrassing. He admits he is a little paranoid but tells Jarrett that he can’t be stopped.

Backstage, the Harris Brothers are talking with Elix Skipper. Don Harris says he isn’t going to team with someone someone like Ron Killings. Skipper is confused, but Don clarifies by saying he wouldn’t team with someone who throws the race card out there all the time.

Ron Killings & Don Harris vs. David Young & Tracy Brooks.

Late in the match, Killings hits a spinning heel kick and catches Tracy from off the top rope to hit a powerbomb! Miss Veronica comes in to check on Tracy while Killings hits a Stunner on Young but can’t get a win.

Killings hits a front slam on Young while the referee is distracted by Desire. Veronica runs over and low blows Killings. Young hits the spine buster on Killings, goes for a pinfall, and gets the 1-2-3!

Winners: David Young & Tracy Brooks

After the match, Desire wasn’t happy with Tracy Brooks hanging on David Young. Desire pulled Tracy Brooks off David Young. Desire slaps Tracy Brooks across the face: Tracy Brooks and Desire catfight in the ring until referees & security pull them apart.

Backstage, Jeff Jarrett says it would be a complete disgrace if Glen Gilbertti won the championship tonight.

Backstage, Erik Watts promised to stop screwing with Goldylocks as long as he was still able to screw her. She didn’t like that much and stormed off.

In the ring, “Wildcat” Chris Harris makes his decision on a partner. After a brief tease, Harris chooses his partner, James Storm, over Chris Sabin. Sabin came into the ring but was sent to the floor by America’s Most Wanted.

America’s Most Wanted vs. BG James & Konnan

BG James and Konnan work over “Cowboy” James Storm & “Wildcat” Chris Harris before the bell. Storm dropkicks Konnan to the floor, and Storm is tossed over the top rope to the floor. Storm catapults off of Harris’ back to take them out with a dive.

Harris hits a slingshot cross body to the floor as well. Konnan dropkicks Harris knee to allow Storm to get control of the match. Harris fights or back with left hands, but BG James works over Harris with some jabs and a knee drop, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two count.

Konnan gets tagged in and locks in a submission on Harris, but Storm breaks it up. Konnan and Harris collide in the middle of the ring. BG James and Storm get the tags, with Storm hitting a spinning heel kick and hurricanrana on BG James and Konnan, respectively.

Storm runs over James and Konnan with a clothesline. Konnan hits a back suplex on Harris. Konnan connects with a rolling thunder clothesline on Storm, but Harris counters with a spear, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two count.

Konnan hits a reverse neckbreaker on Harris. Storm gets out of a slam by BG James, hits a super kick, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two-count. Konnan dropkicks Harris after getting out of a rollup.

On the floor, Storm gets distracted by “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, who was on commentary for this match.

Konnan hits a facebuster on Harris, but the Harris Brothers attack Konnan and hit the H-Bomb. “Wildcat” Chris Harris goes for a pinfall on Konnan and gets the 1-2-3!

Winners: America’s Most Wanted 

In the ring, Goldylocks is with Kid Kash, who throws a couple of insults towards her. Kid Kash blames Trinity for losing the NWA X-Division Championship. Trinity refuses to kiss his ass so he grabs her by the throat.

Goldylocks got involved, and Kid Kash claimed Goldylocks and Trinity were in a “relationship”. Kash slaps Godlylocks, and here comes Erik Watts. Watts enters and power bombs Kid Kash before sending him over the top rope to the floor.

Kid Kash knocks Watts down on the floor, but Watts gets up to hit a choke slam. Goldylocks and Trinity leave with Watts.

Mike Sanders tells Glen Gilbertti backstage to bring the gold back to S.E.X.

Backstage, D’Lo Brown and AJ Styles promise to tear the house down in their upcoming match.

#1 Contender to NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match  

D’Lo Brown vs. AJ Styles

They shake hands to show respect. Brown runs over AJ Styles with a shoulder block in the opening moment, but Styles returns with a quick hurricanrana. Brown knocks Styles down with a right hand, and they have a standoff.

Styles hammers away on Brown several times and counters a side slam with a rollup, but Brown gets out to deliver a dropkick. Styles avoids a splash in the corner and, hits an inverted DDT, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two-count.

Styles blocks a backdrop attempt and goes for the Styles Clash, but Brown gets out of it and knocks Styles off his feet. Brown hits a nice springboard moonsault off the top rope!

Styles ducks a clothesline to hit a super kick and hits a springboard dropkick to send Brown to the floor. Styles dives to the floor, but Brown catches him and backdrops Styles onto the ramp! Brown goes to the top and hits a frog splash onto the floor!

Raven appears at ringside and has a steel chair with him. Brown goes for the cover, but Styles gets his foot on the bottom rope. Styles nails Brown with a Pele Kick! Styles goes for a tornado DDT, but Brown counters it.

Styles leaps off the middle rope only to be met with a diamond cutter. and goes for a pinfall and gets a two-count. Brown heads to the top rope, but Styles crotches him on the top rope, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two count.

Brown hits the Sky High from off the top rope! Julio Dinero pulls the referee out, and Raven hits Brown with the steel chair! Styles gets up and hits a springboard 450 splash but only gets a near fall. Styles goes for the Styles Clash, hits it on a steel chair, goes for a pinfall, and gets the 1-2-3!

Winner: AJ Styles.

After the match, Raven hits AJ Styles over the head with a steel chair.

NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match

Glen Gilbertti. vs. (c) Jeff Jarrett.

They lock up, but neither man gets an advantage. Gilbertti trips Jarrett and taunts the fans. Gilbertti follows up with a hip toss and a few arm drags. Gilbertti slaps Jarrett and continues to have control with strikes and stomps.

Jarrett spears Gilbertti to the floor and sends Gilbertti into a chair. Jarrett sends Gilbertti into the guardrail a couple of times. Mike Sanders comes out and helps out Gilbertti. Jarrett is sent face-first into the ring post.

Gilbertti sends Jarrett into the guardrail chest first and face-first into a platform the cameraman stands on. Gilbertti dropkicks Jarrett’s knee and stomps away on the injured leg.

Gilbertti focuses his attack on Jarrett’s knee. Gilbertti tries to get a submission with a spinning toe hold, but Jarrett fights out of it. Jeff gets up and goes for a figure four, but Gilbertti counters and locks in the ankle lock! Jarrett gets to the bottom rope.

Gilbertti hits a side Russian leg sweep as wrestlers are watching the match out in the arena. Jarrett takes Gilbertti down and locks in the figure four! Gilbertti rolls over to reverse it, but Jarrett won’t give in and instead reaches the bottom rope.

Jarrett plants Gilbertti with a DDT. Jeff hammers away on Gilbertti, and Jarrett hits a double arm DDT goes for a pinfall and gets a two-count. Jarrett nearly wins after a kick to the side of his head.

Jarrett hits a top rope cross body, but Gilbertti rolls through, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two-count. Gilbertti hits the Chartbuster, but Jarrett kicks out before three! Gilbertti grabs a steel chair and folds Jarrett’s foot inside the steel chair before stomping onto the steel chair.

Jarrett hits the Chartbuster throat first across the steel chair, but Gilbertti kicks out! Gilbertti hits the Stroke on Jarrett, goes for a pinfall, and gets a two-count. Jarrett power bombs Gilbertti out of the corner but can’t quickly follow up.

Jarrett runs into an elbow, but Gilbertti is sent into the referee, and they collide in the middle of the ring.

Vince Russo comes out with a bat and hits Gilbertti over the back! Jarrett hits the Stroke on Gilbertti for a pinfall and gets the 1-2-3!

Winner AND STILL: NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett!

Next week, Triple Threat NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match AJ Styles vs. Raven vs. Jeff Jarrett.
