AEW Dynamite Diatribe for 10/9/19 (Jericho/Guevara vs Rhodes/Page)

One week removed from the debut of All Elite Wrestling on TNT, AEW returns with its second episode on this night with a main event of Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara vs Dustin Rhodes and Hangman Page! This week, not only will Darby Allin square off with Jimmy Havoc, AEW World Championship implications at stake, but the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament will officially begin. Let’s get underway from the Agganis Arena from Boston, Massachusetts!

The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) vs. Private Party (Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy) (First-Round Tournament Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship)

Nick and Kassidy start things off, exchanging holds. Kassidy avoids multiple superkick attempts before being laid out. Nick tags in Matt as they nail a gutbuster-neckbreaker combination on Kassidy. The Young Bucks exchange tags multiple times, keeping Kassidy in their corner. Kassidy starts to fight back, nailing Matt with an asai moonsault. Kassidy makes the hot tag to Quen, who nails a series of dives on The Young Bucks to a hot Boston crowd. Quen hits Nick with the 450 splash for the two-count!

Quen misses a splash in the corner as Nick tags in Matt. The Young Bucks nail Private Party with superkicks. Nick is tagged back in as Matt hits a running powerbomb up the ramp on Kassidy! The Young Bucks hit a sliced bread-powerbomb combination for the two-count! Nick locks the sharpshooter on Quen, who makes his way to the ropes. Matt is tagged back in, continuing the attack on Quen. Nick is tagged in as they execute dual basement dropkicks on Quen. The Young Bucks continue to exchange tags, nailing a diving stomp on the weakened Quen, Kassidy still on the outside.

Quen starts to fight back but is unable to make the tag to the recovered Kassidy. However, after getting the upper hand, Kassidy is tagged back in, leading to another hot tag, including a double hurricanrana! Kassidy starts to favor his back before Matt hits sequential northern lights suplexes on both him and Quen! Matt nails Kassidy with a powerbomb in the corner before locking in a sharpshooter, Nick laying out Quen with a kick on the outside. Kassidy finally reaches the bottom rope. Quen makes the bling tag, Kassidy hitting Matt with a poisonrana before they lay out Nick!

Quen hits a big shooting star press! 1… 2… Matt kicks out!

In the ring, The Young Bucks go for the Meltzer Driver, but Kassidy pulls Nick off the apron! Quen rolls up Matt for the 1… 2… 3!

The show returns from commercial to the entrance of AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, flanked by Santana, Ortiz, Sammy Guevara, and Jake Hager. Jericho takes the mic, taking success for AEW’s history-making first episode. Jericho says that he and the men in the ring are next and now. Chris Jericho introduces the members of his stable. As he gets to Hager, Jericho shoots on The Real Americans following “We The People” chants and poor creative. This stable will be known as The Inner Circle.

Jericho sets his sights on Cody, saying that he ever liked him, his father, or his brother, the latter of whom he will face later tonight in tag team action. Jericho says that he will beat “the ever-loving shit” out of Cody before he, as well as his friends, will hit Boston and have “a little bit of the bubbly.” They pose in the center of the ring before we cut to commercial.

Jimmy Havoc vs. Darby Allin (Number One Contender’s Match for the AEW World Championship)

Allin extends the hand to Havoc, who attempts to attack him. Allin rolls up Havoc for a pinfall attempt before Havoc returns the favor. Allin nails a springboard arm drag. Darby Allin corner dropkicks Havoc, who rolls out onto the apron. Havoc bites Allin’s fingers and hits a suplex to the outside! Back in the ring, Havoc continues to attack Allin’s fingers, wrenching them back. Havoc continues to bite the fingers. Allin starts to fight back but is caught by a sleeper hold suplex by Havoc as we cut to commercial.

The show returns to Havoc getting a two-count on Allin. Havoc hits a corner Death Valley Driver on Allin. Tiger Driver ’98 on Allin! 1… 2… Allin kicks out! Allin gets a surprise crucifix pin attempt for a two-count! Havoc goes for the Acid Rainmaker, but Allin bites the fingers, following up with an overhead stunner! Coffin Drop by Allin for the 1… 2… 3!

Bea Priestley and Emi Sakura vs. Dr. Britt Baker, DMD and AEW Women’s World Champion Riho

Sakura and Riho start things off. Sakura catches Riho’s crossbody and drops her. Riho comes back with a running dropkick. Sakura avoids a scoop slam attempt and throws Riho by the hair. Priestley chokes Riho in the corner before Sakura lands a scoop slam of her own. Sakura cinches in a Romero Special before making the tag to Priestley, who starts to attack Baker on the outside. Baker comes back with a Lou Thesz press as the brawl continues. Sakura intervenes to help Priestley land a suplex. Riho hits a cross body on the outside on Priestley and Sakura before we cut to commercial.

The match continues with Priestley and Baker as the legal participants. Sakura makes the tag for herself as she hits a double underhook backbreaker on Baker. Sakura hits a corner cross body followed by a Vader Bomb for the two-count. Baker hits the cutter before Riho runs in, hitting a double stomp on Sakura. Baker hits the swinging neckbreaker on Sakura for a two-count. Dr. Britt Baker hits the ripcord elbow, neckbreaker, followed by her signature submission for the victory!

As the victors celebrate, Baker and Priestley brawl once again, Riho and official Aubrey Edwards having to intervene. Afterward, we cut to a ringside interview with Best Friends, Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta, regarding their chances in the AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament. They direct their attention to Orange Cassidy, who gives a thumbs up.

Shawn Spears (w/Tully Blanchard) vs. Jon Moxley

PAC joins commentary for this match. The bout begins with a standoff before Spears attacks Moxley in different corners. Moxley returns fire with chops and punches of his own. Moxley nails a penalty kick followed by an elbow drop. Jon Moxley nails a lariat on Spears, who rolls to the outside. Moxley follows to continue the attack on Spears. Blanchard interferes, allowing Spears to attack. Moxley quickly recovers, hitting a diving elbow from the apron on Spears. He enters the ring, giving Blanchard the chance to run Moxley into the steel steps. Spears attacks Moxley on the outside, hitting a running Death Valley Driver into the corner barricade!

From commercial, Spears hits a powerbomb on Moxley for a two-count. Spears follows up with a single-leg Boston crab. Moxley escapes but is forced to the outside. Spears hits a suicide dive but Moxley returns fire with one his own. Moxley continues the attack in the ring, hitting an exposed running knee for a two-count. They exchange strikes, Moxley getting the better of the exchange. Spears does his “ten” taunt, but Moxley hits the surprise Paradigm Shift for the 1… 2… 3!

Winner: Jon Moxley

Following the match, Kenny Omega approaches the ring with a barbed wire bat and barbed wire broom. Omega tosses the bat to Moxley, who retrieves it. Suddenly, PAC attacks Omega from behind with a chair, Moxley standing up to PAC. Once PAC exits, Moxley looks down at the fallen Omega before dropping the bat, making his exit as well.

“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes and “Hangman” Adam Page vs. “The Best Ever” Sammy Guevara and AEW World Champion Chris Jericho (w/Jake Hager)

Rhodes and Guevara kick things off in this tag team contest. Guevara quickly tags in Jericho. An irate Rhodes attacks Jericho on the outside. Rhodes catches Guevara with an uppercut before the action returns to the ring. Rhodes tags in Page, who hits a running clothesline in the corner. Page maintains the advantage, hitting a big overhead suplex. Page tags in Rhodes, who nails another uppercut followed by a strong corner whip. Rhodes tags in Page again as they double team Guevara. Page hits the running shooting star press, going for a pin attempt Jericho breaks up. Jericho distracts Page as he goes to the top, giving Guevara the chance to drop him on the top turnbuckle!

The show returns from the last commercial break of the evening with Jericho in control of Page. Jericho misses an attack, but gets the tag on Guevara, who knocks Rhodes off the apron before focusing on Page. However, Page fights off Guevara, who tags in Jericho. He slaps Page across the face. Page counters a Lionsault attempt before tagging in Guevara, who eats a big discus lariat! Page finally makes the tag to Rhodes, who hits a flying cross body on Guevara and Jericho! Rhodes ejects Guevara to the outside. Hangman Page hits a big moonsault to the outside on Guevara before being laid out by a running clothesline from Hager as Jericho looks on and Rhodes unable to help!

Rhodes hits a sunset flip bomb on Jericho for the two-count! Rhodes hits a snap powerslam on Guevara before going for Shattered Dreams on Jericho. As the referee is distracted, Hager lays out Rhodes as well. This gives Jericho the chance to hit the Judas Effect on Rhodes for the 1… 2… 3!

The members of The Inner Circle start to attack Rhodes. Page tries to intervene but is attacked for his efforts. In return, Page hits Hager with a steel chair as they brawl up the ramp. Meanwhile, Guevara and Jericho continue to attack Rhodes in the ring before the lights go out and Page is out. When the lights come back on, Cody is in the ring! Cross Rhodes to Guevara! Cody and Jericho face off before Santana and Ortiz blindside Cody!

Maxwell Jacob Friedman rushes to the ring with a steel chair to defend Cody! Jericho lifts the weakened Cody, but Friedman attacks the members of The Inner Circle with the chair! As Friedman soaks in the cheers, Jericho takes advantage with the Codebreaker. The Young Bucks rush the ring, evening the odds with superkicks and dives. Jericho leaves ringside with his title in hand, but Allin skateboards down the ramp, attacking the champion! Allin hits Jericho with his skateboard, laying out the champion before joining Cody, The Young Bucks, Dustin, and Friedman in the ring.

Jericho takes the mic, saying that The Inner Circle is taking control. He says he will meet Allin, telling him it’s his funeral, before this week’s show comes to a close.
