On Saturday, July 18th, IMPACT Wrestling held its annual Slammiversary event. On a night full of surprises, three titles changed hands on this evening. There were new champions crowned at Slammiversary. At Slammiversary, IMPACT Wrestling also ushered in the return of former World Champions, Eric Young, eC3, and tag team champions Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley the Motor City Machine Guns. Their return to IMPACT, along with the arrival of Heath Miller, Karl Anderson, and returning Luke ‘Doc’ Gallows, made for a fun night.

However, it was the new champions that were crowned that made it for an interesting evening. The recently added Deonna Purrazzo faced IMPACT Wrestling’s Knockout’s Champion Jordynne Grace in a stellar contest. In the end, it was the Virtuosa that proved to be too much for the current champion, Grace. It was Purazzo who bested Grace for the Knockout’s Championship. The championship win was long overdue for they talented Purrazzo. She is finally being granted an opportunity and running with it.

A second championship matchup was between ‘Dashing’ Chris Bey and ‘The Mack Daddy’ Willie Mack. The matchup was a seesaw affair with both competitors going back and forth in the process. In the end was the younger, up and coming Bey that ultimately walked away as the champion. His championship win wasn’t celebrated just by those within IMPACT but the wrestling promotions across the US West Coast that has been home to him. Promotions such as Without A Cause out of Washington and the Las Vegas Wrestling Scene proudly celebrated Bey’s win as the new X-Division Champion.

The final championship win was for the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship. In what was supposed to be a four-way dance ended up becoming a fatal five-way. Fans expected Edwards, Ace Austin, and Trey Miguel. Where the surprise initially came was from a returning Rich Swann. However, this wasn’t the only surprise of the match. The returning EY Eric Young shockingly made the match an unexpected five-way battle for the title. In the end, it was former champion Eddie Edwards that would ultimately walk away as the new champion. The manner in which Edwards has been able to reinvent himself has been tremendous. Where does this next chapter for Edwards and the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship go next? Only time will tell.
