Empire State Wrestling presents Frontier Freeze

Although Western New York’s was smacked with a cold spell recently, ESW will look to counter it with hot action within its ring at its first event of 2024 as Empire State Wrestling presents Frontier Freeze.

Frontier Freeze will feature three marquee matchups at the Frontier Fire Hall in Niagara Falls, N.Y., this Friday. One of the most buzzworthy of these bouts features the debut of one of the innovators of high-flying wrestling.

After appearing in nearly every major wrestling promotion over the last several decades, 2 Cold Scorpio will finally make his ESW debut.

“I’m very excited to finally get Scorpio in our ring,” said ESW promoter Brett Stymus. “He’s someone I wanted to book for a while now and think all the fans will enjoy what he’ll bring in between the ropes.”

The well-traveled veteran will take on “The White Bronco” Channing Decker. Decker returned to ESW at WrestleBash XIII in the Ilio DiPaolo Memorial Cup match.

He is no stranger to facing big names, especially ones that starred in Extreme Championship Wrestling like Scorpio did. Decker previously took on ex-ECW stars such as Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and Rhyno, among others.

ESW Interstate Champion “The Prize” Alec Price will return at Frontier Freeze. After not competing in ESW for the last several months as he defended the IWTV Independent Wrestling World Championship in the U.S. and Canada.

Price will put the Interstate title on the line in a scramble match against “His Royal Freshness” Frank Feathers, “The Holy Hand Grenade” James Sayga, “Red Hot” Vinnie Moon, and Spencer Slade.

Feathers will look to recapture the Interstate Championship, which he dropped to Price in 2022. Sayga unsuccessfully challenged Price for the belt last year. Moon enters the match after coming up just short of winning the Last Chance Battle Royal in November.

Slade returned to ESW at WrestleBash XIII and scored a dominating win over the debuting Shayne Stetson.

The third big match will be reigning ESW Tag Team Champions High Seas against CXR in a two-out-of-three falls match. Both teams took part in a four-way tag team match for the titles at WrestleBash XIII.

The bout ended in controversial fashion as both teams scored simultaneous pinfalls from two different referees. High Seas retained the gold after a ruling was made that Referee Ryan’s count took precedence over Referee D.J. Jarka’s count.

You can see how the match came about in this video here.

There is no scheduled ESW Heavyweight Championship match. Instead, ESW Heavyweight Champion “Invincible” Vince Valor will provide a special address at Frontier Freeze regarding the status of the title.

Valor labored through an injured pectoral muscle at WrestleBash XIII to defeat “The Remix” Kevin Bennett in a steel cage. The injury required extensive surgery after the match.

In tag team action, To Infinity & Beyond will face The BackSeat Boyz. TI&B competed for the ESW Tag Team Championship in the four-way match in November. The BackSeat Boyz challenged High Seas for the tag belts last March.

In the ESW women’s division, fan favorite “Courageous” Christina Marie will take on “The Queen of the Silver Screen” Katie Arquette. Marie took part in a triple threat match at WrestleBash XIII against Haley Dylan and Vanna Black. Arquette’s last ESW appearance was a victory over Dylan at Spring Smash.

During the Last Chance Battle Royal, “Buckwild” Tommy K surprisingly eliminated Edge of Hope’s Jeremiah Richter. In response, Richter viciously attacked him backstage.

You can watch the brutality here:

The two will settle the score against one another in a singles bout at Frontier Freeze. See what Richter said about the match here:

Also set to appear is 2023 DiPaolo Cup winner “The Inspiration” Gregory Iron. After wrestling in several previous DiPaolo Cup matches, Iron scored the final pinfall on Chris Adonis (formerly known as Chris Masters) to capture the trophy and a title shot whenever he chooses.

Doors for Frontier Freeze open at 6 p.m. with the opening bell set for 7 p.m. Frontier Fire Hall is located at 2176 Liberty Drive.

Front and second row seats are sold out but pre-sale priced general admission tickets are still available at ESWTIX.COM. Ticket prices rise by $5 at the door. For out-of-town fans, Frontier Freeze will be livestreamed on IndependentWrestling.TV.

The official Frontier Freeze after-party will be held at Mooney’s in Tonawanda, N.Y.
