AEW Rampage for 9/23/22 (Rampage Grand Slam)

This week’s preview of AEW Rampage for 9/23/22 comes on the heels of an exciting edition of AEW Dynamite, where the new AEW World Championship was determined. This special 2-hour special takes place. Six matches are announced going into the show.

Seven matches have been announced on this week’s edition of Rampage (the 2-hour Grand Slam Edition). While a 10 pm show could deter fans the matches on tap are both intriguing and create a unique set of matches and teams that the AEW fanbase aren’t accustomed to seeing.

HOOK & Action Bronson vs. Matt Menard & Angelo Parker

This match developed when Bronson came to the aid of HOOK last week. What has emerged is a tag team match between the two Jericho Appreciation Society members, the current FTW Champion HOOK, and a man many may not know that much about.

This past week, Bronson appeared on the Busted Open Radio show and shared how he lost nearly a hundred and sixty pounds and began to care about his body again. In addition, Bronson shared how he was an athlete earlier in his life, playing football and baseball. This opportunity on Rampage provides a chance for himself and a platform in AEW.

Will the unknown variable in Action Bronson be exactly more than Menard and Parker can handle?

Eddie Kingston vs. Sammy Guevara

It is finally happening. Fans will likely recall weeks ago that these two men were supposed to face each other. What emerged from that was a crossing of wires, a calming of temperaments, and ultimately the rescheduling of this matchup. But the time has come for two men to face off.

Both men crossed paths during the Blackpool Combat Club and the Jericho Appreciation Society feud. The question now is how will these two styles match up with one another. Kingston hits hard and hits often and doesn’t know when to stop! The key here will be, can Guevara manage to stick and move away from Kingston long enough to sneak in a win?

Check-in Friday night to find out who between these two walks out on top.

Jade Cargill vs. Diamonte

Although the match was announced last week, it was this week that the two came face to face with one another, announcing who would be by their respective sides. Diamonte shocked Jade sharing that Trina would be by her side. After momentarily being caught off guard, shrugged it off.

It was as though she went from caring to not caring almost in an instant. While the threat of Diamonte isn’t something she’s concerned about, it is the appearance of Trina that seemed to create the most damage. Will Trina ultimately overshadow this championship match between Cargill and Diamonte?

Golden Ticket Battle Royal – (includes Jay Lethal, Adam Page, Lance Archer & Penta)

While the Golden Ticket Battle Royal explanation is clear, the question is, when will someone use this opportunity? It is a great way to involve those on the card that aren’t seen regularly on-screen with at stake. It also appears to involve former world champions and perennial threats for singles or tag team championships.

Much like MJF has his Casino Battle Royal chip to use for a future AEW World Championship match it is not unlike the winner of this battle royal. The Golden Ticket Battle Royal winner will walk out with an opportunity at the AEW World Championship. Who will it be? Or will the winner be sacrificed by The Firm to ensure MJF doesn’t have any other threats but him for the title?

Rey Fenix vs. Jungle Boy

In a first-time-ever battle, these two will have a chance to come in and simply show the fans just how great of a match they can put on. While many are bored by the idea of a match that is bell-to-bell excitement, the concern is less about the match.

The concern is when those going into the match may not emit the kind of emotion that others do in the ring. Does that matter? To some, yes, but others want to watch a match that will keep them on the edge of their seat. Fenix and Jungle Boy will certainly create an atmosphere where both will do just that.

Do we see Luchasaurus and Christian appear or cost Jungle Boy in this contest? Tune in to find out.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ricky Starks

These two aren’t finished with one another. Not by a long shot. Starks may have been defeated when he faced Powerhouse Hobbs but was he really ‘beaten’? This is the question that we have to ask as his story is long but over. However, it is as important to know that Starks isn’t prepared to allow everything he’s tried to overcome to be back in the ring.

While it won’t be with Hobbs by his side, he refuses to allow it to be despite him. Starks is a talented character that has shown a charisma that will lead him ahead. Does Hobbs put Starks down again, or do we see Absolute show Powerhouse why the revolution is televised?

Wardlow & Samoa Joe vs. Tony Nese and Josh Woods with Smart Mark Sterling

Whether it was an intentional pun or not, the union of WAR-JOE is as much about uniting Ring of Honor as it is about elevating the TNT Championship. Joe, Wardlow, Nese, and Wood all have either competed for the Ring of Honor Television title, held an ROH title, or an AEW title. It is an opportunity to elevate all involved and their value in AEW.

With that said, fans who aren’t as aware of the Technical Beast Josh Woods will be. As a former ROH Pure Rules champion. He can stretch, tear at and ultimately manipulate joints with the best of them. Some could argue he’d also be a great fit for the Blackpool Combat Club. But this is just as important to give Nese time to shine, and this match will do just that.

Darby Allin & Sting vs. House of Black (Brody King and Buddy Matthews) with Julia Hart

While it is odd to still refer to King and Mathews as the House of Black, the show must go on. After the departure of Malakai Black, the question that remains is whether the rather dark nature that wMalakai first presentedwill be as well presented with King, Matthews, and Hart.

How do you pick a winner in a match that involves the enigmatic persona of Sting and Allin? Allin has been the victim at the hands of Brody King in the past, but he is coming to Rampage with a bodybag in tow. It appeared as though something was in the bag. What or who do you think Allin has in the bag?

What to Expect:

  • MJF addresses the new AEW Champion, Jon Moxley
  • The Acclaimed address their newly won AEW Tag Team Championships
  • Toni Storm addresses the arrival of Saraya
