This week’s edition of the NXT Inquest for 5/8/19 features a matchup between the Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole and the Original Bro, Matt Riddle. Last week’s episode teased developing tension amongst the Undisputed Era, as Cole took a shot at Roderick Strong that Roddy didn’t appreciate.
Mia Yim vs. Bianca Belair
As the show kicks off, Full Sail University appears just as lively as ever. Yim comes out and is looking to settle the score against NXT’s EST, as there has been some animosity developing between these two. The crowd appears quite split early on in the match. Both women are hitting each other with stiff words and even stiffer actions. When Yim attempts a Koppo kick, Belair moves and Yim lands inside the turnbuckle. Belair is relentless in working on Yim and eventually gets her on the mat in a rest hold.
The commentators are discussing that there may be professional jealousy that exists between the two women. Belair hits a reverse powerbomb into a pin, only for Yim to kick out at two. The EST tries to get into her opponent’s head, but Yim overcomes that and the physical beating and starts to recover. Belair covers her after a suplex and follows that with a three-quarter nelson. Yim catches Belair with her knees and hits her with everything she has, including a rolling cannonball. Eventually, Belair ties her hair around the ropes in order to reinforce a pinfall, and get a three count for the win.
Winner: Bianca Belair
After the match, Belair shows she outsmarted Yim using her hair to get the three count win in the first match of the night on NXT.
Backstage footage is shown of the Forgotten Sons attacking the Viking Raiders. All three members of the group attacked Erik and Ivar, and it was all caught by security cameras.
After the commercial, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke are shown training with Shayna Baszler. The sparring session is interrupted when Io Shirai comes in and attacks Baszler until she is eventually held back.
Raoul Mendoza vs. Riddick Moss
This is the first time Moss has been shown onscreen in singles action since being injured. That injury, along with one to his erstwhile tag team partner Tino Sabbatelli, resulted in both men being off television. He has returned with a ‘Riddick Regimen’ character and is prepared for singles action against Mendoza. Initially, Moss tries to play catch up to Mendoza. Finally, he catches him and begins to do curls with his opponent, and then tosses him over his shoulder. After a gorilla press, he drops him to the mat and then and spears him. Moss picks ups Mendoza and slaps his water bottle away. This revives Mendoza who starts firing on all cylinders as he attacks his cocky opponent. After a kick-off the top rope and a springboard twisting press, Mendoza splashes Moss and covers him for a pinfall win.
Winner: Raoul Mendoza.
After another commercial break, we see highlights of KUSHIDA’S match last week against Kassius Ohno. It is then announced that KUSHIDA will return next week to compete again. Up ahead is the final match of the night on NXT featuring Adam Cole and Matt Riddle.
Matt Riddle vs. Adam Cole
Riddles comes out to the ring first as the fans chant ‘BRO.’ Cole comes out next, without any of the other members of the Undisputed Era. The bell rings and a slow and methodical approach is taken by both men at the outset of the match. Riddle rides Cole early on, forcing the leader of the UE out of the ring. Once back in the ring Riddle gets him down again and maintains control on him with a unique array of moves. He uses a trifecta of gut wrench side suplexes. Cole recovers and hits a bicycle kick. He locks in a submission move temporarily, then uses an array of moves to work on the neck and head of Riddle. Riddle recovers and gets Cole off of him, only for Cole to come back and hit him with an elbow off the ropes. A subsequent tongue lashing fires up Riddle, who angrily unleashes a flurry of moves. He covers for a pin but only gets a two count. Riddle then hits a German suplex into a pinning attempt but to no avail. Cole responds with a fireman’s carry neckbreaker, but again the pin attempt only gets two. Riddle comes back with a ripcord knee and picks up Cole his opponent, but Cole reverses it midair.
Both men are beginning to look exhausted here. From their knees they exchanges punches and chops, get to their feet and Cole stomps on Riddle’s barefoot, but when he follows with an attempt at a superkick Riddle turns it into an ankle lock. Riddle hits two fisherman busters only for Cole to hit a suplex shoulder breaker. Fans are chanting ‘Fight forever.’ Riddle kicks out after Cole hits his ‘Last Shot’ knee. He is taking Cole’s best shots and is still going. He responds with a combination of a GTS, knee strike and a penalty kick. Finally, he locks in the Bromission, and Cole taps out, despite Roderick Strong trying to come in and aid the UE leader.
Winner: Matt Riddle
After the match, Cole and Strong exchange words, and the other two members of the group separate them. Strong was trying to say he was there to help him, but it seems like Cole is not having any of it. Everyone begins to file out of the ring and the microphones capture Cole saying he didn’t need Strong’s help. This end’s another edition of NXT.
