This Saturday, October 23, IMPACT! Wrestling will hold their biggest event of the year with Bound for Glory. As always, there is an incredibly stacked card planned. In the main event, we’ll see the current IMPACT! World Champion Christian Cage defend his title against former tag team and X-Division champion Josh Alexander.
Christian Cage vs. Josh Alexander – (IMPACT! World Championship)
In what promises to be yet another memorable BFG main event. It’ll be interesting to see if one of the longest-standing IMPACT! competitors can finally stake his claim to the top prize in the company. It will be much easier said than done though, as Christian Cage is an IMPACT! legend in his own right.
Christian Cage is not only the current IMPACT! World Champion, but he is also a two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. This was back when the company was under the “TNA” banner. Nowadays though, Christian is performing for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). This alone is enough for the “Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander to want to bring that title back home. The company had gone through somewhat of a renaissance since being taken over from Scott D’Amore and Don Callis. One of the brightest parts of this rebirth so to speak was The North, Alexander’s tag team with Ethan Page.
The North were the longest-reigning tag team champions in IMPACT! history, at a whopping 380 days. After being one of the most accomplished tag teams in the company’s history, both Ethan Page and Josh Alexander decided to try their hand in the singles division. As I said earlier, Ethan Page decided to go to AEW, while Josh Alexander stayed the course and remained with IMPACT!
Speaking ahead of the most important match of his career thus far, Josh Alexander sat down with several members of the media. Dylan Hughes was lucky enough to get a brief word with Josh Alexander before this monumental showdown this Saturday.
The Walking Weapon Addresses Fan Support as a Long-Tenured IMPACT! Talent
“It was announced yesterday that Bound for Glory officially sold out. With you being in the main event and much of the fan base really clamoring for you to win that title, what’s it mean for you as such a long-tenured IMPACT! employee to have that level of fan support, and that being especially in a time where there are so many quality options for fans to watch today?”
Josh Alexander: “I mean, it’s definitely all great. I think that for me, all the fanfare and stuff comes from: A, I’m an IMPACT! talent and people wanna see that IMPACT! World Championship brought back home to this locker room, regardless of Christian’s history here in this company, he’s still a member of a different locker room when it’s all said in done.
He’s stepping in here as a stranger to our locker room so I think there’s a lot of fanfare behind me for that. The second part of it is, it’s kind of been earned. Ya know, I’m a quiet guy I don’t go out there and ask for everybody’s support, I just kind of, focus on what I love to do and that’s just have a wrestling match. And I think through the hard work that I put into that ring, I think it’s brought people in to know me more, and really get behind me.
And ya know, the story going into the match Saturday night is just like, if you’re on the fence about watching this show or ordering this show or whatever it is, then I don’t understand. Because you have a legend in Christian Cage. Somebody coming in with the majority of people behind him because the majority of people know him.
I am the relative unknown in the position, I am the one with something to prove. But if you look at me and if you look at my story, it’s been nearly sixteen years of hurdles and ups and downs … and I’m going to do everything I can to make the best of it.”
One thing is for sure, win, lose, or draw, this will certainly be one of the matches of the night. Will Christian’s experience be enough to help him retain the title? Or will Josh Alexander finally achieve his goal of being the face of IMPACT! Wrestling. You can catch Bound for Glory on October 23 on FITETV or through your local cable provider.
