Hello, one and all! Grab a chair and settle down while I talk you through this past weeks 205 Live with a main event of Oney Lorcan and Humberto Carillo! This week is all about finalizing the number one contender for Drew Gulak’s Cruiserweight title and setting up a possible Lucha House Party split. Enough faff from me, let’s get to it!

As the show kicked off, 205 Live GM (and current 24/7 Champion) Drake Maverick is shown backstage talking to Oney Lorcan and Humberto Carillo. As both men hold a victory over Drew Gulak – via last week’s 10 man tag match result – Drake is putting the two in a match to determine the new number one contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

    Ariya Daivari vs Kalisto

Kalisto is the nimbler of the two and uses that to his advantage, keeping away from Daivari. They do eventually lock up and Ariya takes control, breaks from the lock-up and mocks Kalisto to his face! They lock up again but this time Kalisto is ready and focused. He performs a Sunset Flip for a quick two count. He then mocks Daivari to his face and then follows it up with a flying arm drag to the outside, and a tope suicido.

Both men quickly get back into the ring. As they do so Kalisto heads to the top turnbuckle but Daivari sees the danger and rolls back to the outside. Kalisto follows suit but is tripped up as he steps outside. A Shotgun Dropkick to the barricade and whipped into the steps, and Daivari is now in control. He rolls in Kalisto into the ring and quickly covers. Just a two this time.

Kalisto fights back to his feet from being grounded to the mat and hits an Inverted DDT for a two count. He then lays in some stiff chops, fists, and kicks to Daivari, but he cuts off the Lucha with a clothesline for two. He then grounded Kalisto yet again, but the Lucha gets back to his feet once more, hits a Jawbreaker but is given a Spinebuster for his troubles. A two-count follows.

Kalisto with more kicks and strikes, then an arm drag into a Reverse Hurricanrana! He Should have got more than the two count here. A Salina Del Sol is countered by Daivari as he sends Kalisto to the outside. A Hurricanrana to the outside sends Daivari loopy and exerts all of Kalisto’s energy. But luckily both men just beat the referee’s 10 count.

Kalisto hits a 450 from the top turnbuckle but only gets a two as Daivari reached for the ropes. Another Salina Del Sol attempt is countered as Ariya rakes the eyes of Kalisto and hits his Persian Twist finisher for the win!

    Winner – Ariya Daivari

After the match, Daivari beat down Kalisto some more which brought out the rest of the Lucha House Party. Instead of the ass whooping Daivari deserves, he sweet-talks Gran Metalik into just letting him leave the ring. Is there more to this? Could we see a Metalik heel turn in the future?

A good match there that went about three or four minutes too long. Not to take away from the action, but I could have done without the multiple trips to the outside. Nice to see Daivari win a match too 😉

Backstage interview time now and Tony Nese talks about how he wants the Cruiserweight Championship back around his waist. And he will do anything to get it. But he sumizes that he maybe needs to change things up to get there. Surely not another heel turn tease? That would be two teases in the space of 45 seconds!

The Singh Brothers are shown in a quick promo. They state that need to go back and study the footage from the Bollywood Actors Studio to become the greatest tag team on 205 Live. So that’s what they decide to do. I like the fact that a possible repackage is teased here (more teases). They need something. Keep them off-screen until Jinder Mahal is cleared to return I say.

    WWE Cruiserweight #1 Contenders Match
    Humberto Carillo vs Oney Lorcan

Both men lock up and work to ropes and a break ensues. A Half and Half is teased by Oney but it’s countered into a counter, and both men are in a standoff. They lock up again and this time Carillo takes the match to the canvas. Great mat work here as both men pass each other multiple times and trade pin attempts for near falls. Great start!

With both men back to their feet, Lorcan grabs and works the left arm of Carillo for a bit but Humberto soon escapes. Standing switch after switch finished after a vicious knee strike from Lorcan gets a two count. Keeping on the offensive, Oney lays in some of his hard as nails strikes and a Gourd Buster for another two.

Lorcan keeps the match close to the canvas, taking Carillo out of his high-flying game plan. He slaps in a rear-naked choke on Humberto but it’s not long before Carillo reverses out of the hold and hits a great knee strike to the face of Lorcan. What is it with the stiff knees tonight?

It’s not long before Lorcan takes control again with his physical brawling style. A few strikes and a Bear Hug nearly puts away Carillo but he fights back. A few elbows and kicks, plus a great clothesline takes down Lorcan. A Basement Dropkick and a standing Moonsault gives Humberto a way back into the match. A Springboard Headbutt sends Oney to the outside, but the Tope Suicido that follows misses Lorcan and Carillo crashes and burns.

Both back in the ring and Lorcan takes Carillo’s head off with a vicious uppercut. But it doesn’t phase Humberto too much as he replies with a Disaster Kick for a two count. A Cartwheel Arm Drag is next and it’s another two for Carillo. He jumps to the top turnbuckle for a Moonsault but it’s countered by Lorcan and he puts his feet up into Humberto’s face. Lorcan’s turn to go on the offense now!

Running elbows, strikes galore. You name it, Oney delivered it. But a dropkick from Carillo sends Lorcan to the outside, and he follows it up with a Fosbury Flop over the top ropes to the outside! Outstanding stuff!

Back in the ring, and Cariilo goes to the top turnbuckle once more. But he’s stopped by another patented Lorcan uppercut. He attempts a Super Half And Half but Carillo slips out and hits a Superkick, a Draping Double Footstomp and a Sitout Powerbomb for a two count. This match is insane! More strikes are traded but Carillo gets the better of the two with a spin kick which takes Lorcan down to a knee.

Humberto runs the ropes but eats a great dropkick from Lorcan that sends him to the outside. Oney follows him out and hits a Half And Half on the floor outside! He then scales to the top turnbuckle and sends Carillo flying with a Top Rope Cannonball Dive to the outside! WTF?!

Oney slides Humberto back into the ring and performs another Cannonball in the corner. Again only a two count. He puts Carillo onto the top turnbuckle and attempts the Super Half And Half, but Humberto fights out of it and sends Oney to the canvas. A Corkscrew Moonsault from Carillo and that’s all she wrote. Carillo wins!

Winner – And #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, Humberto Carillo!

After the match, Drew Gulak appeared on the TitanTron. He congratulated (rather sarcastically) Carillo, but made sure to let everyone know that this was his 205 Live. He trained Carillo back in the day, and although he is a great competitor, Gulak is a different man to what he was back then. He will teach Humberto new, painful lessons at Clash Of Champions…..

For those that remember, Carillo lost to Lorcan a few months back, so this gets his win back. It also sets up his new feud with his former trainer/mentor in Gulak. And another possible great Cruiserweight Championship match.

And as for Lorcan? He’s been booked strong for a while now and I expect that to continue. Put him in a program with Tony Nese perhaps? See those sparks fly!
