WWE NXT Preview for 01/13/21 (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Begins)

On the heels of last week’s New Year’s Evil event, NXT has begun to look ahead. Up next is its annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament. Twelve teams have been announced, with four of them facing off this week. Several new tandems were assembled, including ones that may go into this tournament with tension surrounding them. For instance, will Scott and Atlas overcome any potential professional jealousy? Or will an unlikely tandem of KUSHIDA and Leon Ruff shock the world? Could August Grey and Stallion turn some heads? There could be an instance of having repeat winners in this tournament. Will the Undisputed Era’s quest to become a multi-time Dusty Classic winner occur, or will former champions Breezango look to add to their accomplishments as a duo? All this and more in this week’s WWE NXT preview for 01/13/21.

Undisputed Era vs Brezzango

To think that this is a first-round matchup is unbelievable. But fans best believe it as two former tag team champions will square off against one another. However, this is the first time Adam Cole And Roderick Strong have entered the tournament as a tandem. The first time around, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly entered the tournament as a tandem. Interestingly enough, Roderick Strong joined the Undisputed Era that evening when he turned on his then-teammate, Pete Dunne. With Bobby Fish suffering an injury and Kyle O’Reilly being pushed in singles competition, Adam Cole and Roderick Strong have come together. Strong and Cole are in tough against long-time tandem Breeze and Fandango. It is a shame that one of these teams won’t make it out of this round.

Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Ever-Rise

Two tandems with a great deal of history behind them are another first-round matchup. When French duo Matt Martel and Chase Parker step across the ring from James Drake and Liverpool’s #1 Zack Gibson the result be electric! A number of fans may tend to sit on the duo of Parker and Martel but that shouldn’t be the case with them. Their opposition involves the former WWE NXT UK tag team champions in Drake and Gibson. Martel and Parker have long been working to make a name for themselves in NXT.

A win here would certainly would move Ever-Rise up but as a threat to win the whole as a threat to win the entire tournament. For Drake and Gibson, a win here will make the rest of the NXT tag team division take notice that they are looking to take North America by storm.

We have also witnessed the emergence of Xia Li with Boa and the mysterious figure by their side. Will the NXT locker room be put on notice? A number of questions after last week are let to be answered. These include what will be of Damien Priest and Rhea Ripley after their losses at New Year’s Evil.
