TNT Championship Semifinals: AEW Dynamite IGNITE for 4/29/20

Welcome to the latest edition of AEW IGNITE! It is possible this is the last taped show from the “Undisclosed Location”. The most important part of tonight’s Dynamite is it is finally time for the TNT Championship semifinals. Let us see what AEW has in store for us on Wednesday:

Jon Moxley Speaks

The last time we saw Jon Moxley he defeated Jake Hager in a grueling Empty Arena match just a few weeks ago. This will be the first time we see and hear from the world champion since that victory. What could possibly be on his mind?

This would seem to be the opportunity to begin the push for AEW Double or Nothing. Will Jon Moxley call out his next challenger? Or will a new challenger emerge? It will be fun to see the beginnings of a new World title feud.

Brodie Lee vs. Marko Stunt

This certainly has the makings of a mismatch. Marko Stunt got to watch Brodie Lee destroy an opponent last week on AEW Dynamite. He did not back down from Brodie Lee’s attempt to intimidate last week’s post-match. Thus begun the build to one of the most unlikely of matches.

Marko Stunt is the ultimate underdog who has won a lot of fans by never giving up against his bigger opponents. He certainly didn’t back down against Lance Archer a few weeks ago. He faces big odds against the Dark Order leader. It will be interesting to say the least.

Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc (w/ Penelope Ford) vs. The Best Friends (Trent & Chuck Taylor) w/ Orange Cassidy (No Dq/No Count-out)

Orange Cassidy defeated Jimmy Havoc last week to pick up his first-ever AEW victory last week. The celebration was pretty short-lived as Havoc and Kip Sabin attacked Cassidy post-match. The Best Friends made the save before things got even worse.

The challenge was made to have a no disqualification/no count-out match. This match seems tailor-made for the style of Jimmy Havoc. But when we add in Orange Cassidy and Penelope Ford into the mix and it could be some real chaotic fun.

Lance Archer vs. Dustin Rhodes

(TNT Championship Semifinals Match)

Dustin Rhodes put his career on the line last week as he said he would retire if he lost to Kip Sabin. He was able to pick up the victory and move one step closer to a possible title opportunity. He faces a massive challenge in Lance Archer.

Lance Archer has destroyed all his AEW opponents in dominant fashion since his March debut. It is easy to see why he is the favorite to win the entire tournament. He has also placed his sights on the man he calls “Caesar”, Cody. Will he take it out on Cody’s older brother? Or will the thirty-year veteran Dustin Rhodes continue his run to another possible championship?

Darby Allin vs. Cody

(TNT Championship Semifinals Match)

This is the match I was really looking forward to seeing in this tournament. Cody and Darby Allin defeated their rivals to set up the third singles match in their fun rivalry. This time it has real title implications.

Darby Allin had an impressive time limit draw at last year’s Fyter Fest against Cody. They had a rematch on New Year’s Day where Cody pulled off the victory. They have even tagged with each other on multiple occasions in recent months. Cody seems to have some respect for Darby but will throw in some backhanded compliments towards the younger talent. Will Darby finally get the victory over the biggest star in AEW? It will be an excellent main event for sure.
