On night two of NXT TakeOver Stand & Deliver, Santos Escobar became the Undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion. In the show’s opening match, Jordan Devlin and Santos Escobar battled one another in a ladder match to unify the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. The narrative of the match going in was that both men could lay claim to the Cruiserweight championship. As a travel ban had initially prevented Devlin from defending the title, a new champion would be named.

Fans will recall a tournament would take place to determine who the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion would be. As it would turn out, Santos Escobar would become the new champion. However, it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that Jordan Devlin said he would be coming to NXT. His arrival/return in NXT would not fall on deaf ears and, in fact, was pointed directly at Santos Escobar and the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.

With Devlin’s arrival, so came a need to determine who the rightful NXT Cruiserweight Champion would be. The stage was set for the two to face one another. It was WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels that would present the two men with a ladder. The ladder wasn’t simply symbolic, causing them to raise the stakes but rather presenting them with an opportunity.

On this night, the match had moments that would indeed channel Shawn Michaels. At one point, Jordan Devlin would hit a moonsault from the top of the ladder onto a prone Santos Escobar. Despite outside interference from Legado del Fantasma, Devlin’s chances weren’t minimized either. Both Escobar and Devlin would battle fearlessly throughout the match. As the match was reaching its closing moments, Escobar would headbutt Devlin off the ladder, causing him to crash through a prone ladder resting in the corner. With Devlin taken out of action, Escobar would remove both titles hung above the middle of the ring.
