NWA-TNA PPV 37 | NWA-TNA/IMPACT Sunday Night RetroView

On Wednesday, March 19, 2003, NWA-TNA presented NWA-TNA PPV 37. In the latest of our NWA-TNA/IMPACT Sunday Night RetroViews.  The show opened with Glen Gilbertti trying to convince D’Lo Brown to join S.E.X. Because they are both friends with Vince Russo.

He tried to tell Brown that Jarrett was just pretending to be his friend and was really just having Brown fight his battles for him. Jeff Jarrett came out and told Brown that the Russo he knew doesn’t even exist anymore. Brown made it clear to Jarrett that he wanted a title shot, already teasing some issues between them.

Brian Lawler, Erik Watts, and David Flair came out and attacked Jarrett. Brown, Storm, Harris, and Rhodes they’re overwhelmed until Ron “The Truth” Killings hits the ring. Jeff Jarrett, D’Lo Brown, “Cowboy” James Storm, “Wildcat” Chris Harris America’s Most Wanted, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes and Ron “The Truth” Killings fight back against S.E.X. & David Flair, Brian Lawler, Erik Watts eventually bail out of the ring.

Mike Tenay and Don West rundown some of the matches we’ll see on tonight’s NWA-TNA PPV match card. Raven cut a promo saying that being the TNA World Champion is his destiny and he will eliminate AJ Styles to get it.

NWA World Tag Team Championship Match
Brian Lee and Slash The Disciples of the New Church, with Father, James Mitchell vs. Elix Skipper and Low-Ki Triple X (c) with “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels

Low-Ki kicks Slash in the back and goes for a pinfall and gets a two-count. Skipper has Slash up across his back Low-Ki with a Knee Drop off the top ropes goes for a pinfall and gets a two count. Lee with a Death Valley Driver on Skipper

goes for a pinfall and gets a two-count before, Low-Ki breaks up the pinfall with a Drop Kick. Slash slams Low-Ki into referee Mike Posey in the ring. Daniels gets in the ring and hits Lee with one of the NWA World Tag Team titles. Skipper hits Slash The Play of the Day on one of the NWA World Tag Team titles.

Daniels tosses referee Mike Posey back into the ring  Posey counts 1-2 Malice hits the ring, pulls Posey out of the ring to stop the 1-2-3. Malice with a big boot to Skipper, he also gives Low-Ki and Skipper power bombs. Malice choke slams Low-Ki. Malice choke slams referee Mike Posey.

Brian Lee and Slash The Disciples of the New Church, have been Disqualified.

Winners: AND STILL NWA World Tag Team champions, Elix Skipper, Low-Ki, and “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels Triple X.

After the match, Brian Lee and Slash The Disciples of the New Church, celebrate in the ring, NWA World Tag Team champions, Elix Skipper holds one of the NWA World Tag Team titles in the air. “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels carries Low-Ki over his right shoulder to the back.

Mike Tenay throws it to a sit-down interview he conducted earlier today with Erik Watts who said that he had done all he wanted to do in the business and put over his father as the best promoter ever. Watts was nice enough to let Tenay know that when he wants to reveal why he is in TNA he will let him know.

Glenn Gilbertti pokes fun at some of the members of SEX by mocking Siaki, slapping Sanders for losing to Duggan last week, and tells Hollywood she needs to get Athena to expose her breasts tonight or she is fired!

Konnan &  Juventud Guerrera vs. Jerry Lynn & Jason Cross

This is Konnan’s NWA-TNA in-ring debut.

Juventud Guerrera and Jerry Lynn shake hands before, the match nice show of sportsmanship between Guerrera & Lynn. Nice chain wrestling exchange from Guerrera and Lynn to start the match. Guerrera & Lynn exchange a series of pinfall attempts getting two counts.

Lynn with Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker on Guerrera goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Lynn tags Cross into the match, Cross with a Spin heel kick on Guerrera goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Cross with a Brainbuster on Guerrera goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Konnan wants to tag into the match, but reluctantly Guerrera tags Konnan into the match.

Konnan has Cross in a Full Nelson Guerrera off the top rope with a missile dropkick. Konnan and Lynn tag into the match. Guerrera with a Sunset Flip into a Powerbomb on Lynn goes for a pinfall Cross breaks it up on two. Cross to the top rope hits Crossfire on Konnan goes for a pinfall Guerrera breaks it up on two.

Guerrera goes to the top rope and hits a Senton on Cross goes for a pinfall Lynn breaks it up on two. Lynn goes for a Cradle Piledriver on Guerrera Konnan with a Tequila Sunrise clothesline on Lynn Konnan goes for a pinfall Lynn kicks out at two. Lynn goes for a Sunset Flip Konnan uses the middle rope for leverage referee Rudy Charles counts the 1-2-3!

Winners: Juventud Guerrera & Konnan.

After the match, Konnan stands on the announce table to celebrate the win.

They air a video package Kid Kash- Amazing Red feud.

Backstage, Amazing Red challenges Trinity to a match but is made fun of by TNA X-Division Champion, Kid Kash for challenging a girl.

Glenn Gilberti & Mike Sanders vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan & ???

Gilbertti and Sanders with a double team attack Duggan on the floor when the bell rang to start the match. Moondog Spot made his way through the crowd and arrived with a bone in his hand. Gilbertti leaves the ring and leaves his tag team partner Sanders all alone in the ring. Moondog Spot hits Sanders with his bone. Duggan with a Knee Drop on Sanders goes for the pinfall referee Andrew Thomas counts the 1-2-3!

Winners: Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Moondog Spot.

After the match, ring attendant Athena gives Hacksaw, Jim Duggan, the American Flag. Duggan waves Old Glory in the ring, to celebrate the win.

We hear from Father James Mitchell who issues a challenge to S.E.X to a Sadistic Madness Match next week. He is going to get another member next week for the match.

NWA X-Divison Championship 3-Way Match

Amazing Red vs. Trinity vs. (c) Kid Kash

Amazing Red with a Springboard Elbow Drop on Kid Kash goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Kid Kash drops  Amazing Red face first on the mat goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Kid Kash with a Power Bomb out of the Boston Crab on Amazing Red goes for a pinfall gets a two count.

Amazing Red with a Standing Shooting Star Press on Kid Kash goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Amazing Red Irish Whip Kid Kash into Trinity knocking her off the ring apron, Amazing Red hits an Enziguri Kick on Kid Kash goes for a pinfall Kid Kash grabs the bottom rope to break it up at two. Kid Kash  hits 130 Edge Springboard Somersault Drop Kick on Amazing Red who was sitting in the corner, goes for a pinfall gets a two count.

Kid Kash with a Swinging Neckbreaker followed by Suplex dropping Amazing Red on Kid Kash’s left knee goes for a pinfall gets a two count. Kid Kash goes to the top rope Amazing Red crotches Kid Kash on the top turnbuckle. Kid Kash attempts a Power Bomb off the top rope Amazing Red counters it into a Hurricarana.

Trinity goes to the top rope hits a Hurricarana, a Tornado DDT followed by a Head Scissor on Amazing Red. Trinity goes to the top rop she’s favoring her back. Kid Kash with an O’Connor roll into a German Suplex on Amazing Red gets the 1-2-3!

Winner: AND STILL NWA X-Divison Champion, Kid Kash.

After the match, Kash celebrates the win by holding the NWA X-Divison Championship in the air. After the match, Kid Kash walks to the back.

Backstage, Jeff Jarrett and D’Lo Brown are heard yelling at each other in the locker room. “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes goes into the locker room where Jeff Jarrett and D’Lo Brown are arguing with each other.

Six-Man Tag Team Match

Erik Watts, Brian Lawler & David Flair vs. D’Lo Brown, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes  & NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett

Brown opened the match with Lawler and got the better of the exchange after hitting a spine-buster. Brown drives Lawler down with a sit-out Powerbomb goes for a pinfall and gets a two count. Watts enters and whip lashes Brown down to the mat to give his team the upper hand.

Watts drops Brown gut first over the top rope as he continues to punish Brown. Jarrett gets the hot tag and he cleans house with right hands and a dropkick. Rhodes enter the ring and nailed Watts with several elbow shots. Jarrett plants Flair with the Stroke and goes for a pinfall and gets the 1-2-3!

Winners: D’Lo Brown, Dusty Rhodes & Jeff Jarrett.

After the match, Brown was on the ramp and pointed at Jarrett making it clear he wants the title. Ron Killings shows up and raises the arms of Rhodes and Jarrett. Wait, Killings grabs Jarrett and powerbombs him out of the corner! Killings has turned bad guy. Watts has a rope around Jarrett’s neck and they fight into the crowd.

Lawler comes off the top and hits a leg drop on Rhodes! Outside, Watts has tied Jarrett to a limo and he is going to drag Jarrett. Watts drops down to his knees and says he is in Jarrett’s mind. He isn’t going to drag him. Instead, he has something better in mind for Jarrett.

Backstage, S.E.X attack the New Church, who had entered their locker room. Sonny Siaki and Hollywood came out to get Athena to expose her breasts. Athena destroyed Hollywood in a catfight and refused to rip her top off. Siaki ended up planting her with a tombstone and David Young came out to run off Sonny Siaki and Hollywood.

Mike Tenay asked Don West to rundown the match card on NWA-TNA PPV #38 The Disciples of the New Church, Brian Lee, Slash, Malice and a Mystery Partner vs. Triple X, Ron and Don The Harris Brothers to Sadistic Madness Match, Konnan vs. Jerry Lynn.

NWA World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contenders Ladder Match

Raven vs. AJ Styles

Styles shows up from behind on the floor and hits Raven with a trash can lid. Styles continues to hit Raven with a trash can and kicks Raven with the trash can over his body. Styles hits a springboard moonsault onto a ladder!

Styles delivers a drop-toe hold sending Raven face-first into the chair. Styles plants Raven onto the chair with a DDT! Raven throws a steel chair at Styles to knock him off the ladder. Styles is nailed with the ladder a few times as Raven has been busted open. Styles is busted open as well after several ladder shots in the corner.

Styles knocks Raven off the middle rope with a trash can lid shot. Styles leaps off the ladder to connect with a Hurricarana! Raven grabs a staple gun and staples Styles right in the head! They are on the floor where Styles fights back with a super kick on the rampway.

Styles leaps off the top rope and sends both the referee and Raven through a table with a leg drop! Raven had grabbed the referee to protect himself. Styles is climbing the ladder but Glenn Gilbertti enters the ring, and power bomb Styles over the top through a table on the floor! Raven enters the ring and grabs the contract to win the match.

Winner: NWA World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender Raven.

NWA-TNA PPV #37 goes off the air.
