IMPACT Wrestling Presents Turning Point 2020

2020 has been an interesting year for IMPACT! Wrestling. At Hard to Kill in January, Tessa Blanchard became the first woman to hold the IMPACT World Championship, signalling a new dawn for the company. Then, in March, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. For the rest of the year, IMPACT! Wrestling produced their shows from Skyway Studios with no live audience. Tessa Blanchard found herself stranded in Mexico, and IMPACT Wrestling stripped her of her title. Then, at Slammiversary, we saw the debut of The Good Brothers, along with the returns of Eric Young, Brian Myers, EC3, and the Motor City Machine Guns. This Saturday night is Turning Point, the final IMPACT Wrestling special event in 2020. What twists could be in store to round out the year as IMPACT Wrestling presents Turning Point 2020?

Brian Myers vs Swoggle

Swoggle made his return to IMPACT! Wrestling at Bound For Glory in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet match. He didn’t last long, however, as Brian Myers eliminated him on his way to eliminating Tommy Dreamer. The following week, Swoggle got involved in Myers’s Hardcore Halloween match against Tommy Dreamer, costing him the victory. Last week, Myers interrupted an interview with Swoggle, giving some rude and, dare I say, bigoted remarks about Swoggle and his new book. Saturday night at Turning Point, Swoggle is determined to show The Most Professional Wrestler tge error of his ways.

Daivari vs Eddie Edwards

Another wrestler who returned to IMPACT! Wrestling in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet is Daivari. Prior to Bound For Glory, Daivari hadn’t been in a wrestling ring for almost 2 years. His ring rust was showing in the gauntlet match, however, as he was eliminated in short order. On Saturday night, he’s hoping to show that his appearance in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet wasn’t a one-off, as he faces Eddie Edwards. The former IMPACT World Champion will be quite the challenge for Daivari, especially after such a long time away. However, Eddie is coming off of a brutal attack by Sami Callihan, Ken Shamrock, and Chris Bey. Will this help Daivari re-establish himself in IMPACT! Wrestling?

IMPACT Wrestling Presents Turning Point 2020
XXXL vs Chris Sabin and James Storm

At Bound For Glory, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley were to defend their tag team championships in a 4-way match. However, before the match started, Josh Alexander of The North put Alex Shelley out of action with a tiger driver on the stage. The following week, Acey Romero and Larry D challenged the Motor City Machine Guns. Sabin promised XXXL they’d get their match once Shelley was ready to compete. But XXXL saw this as an excuse, and attacked MCMG. Last week, Sabin gave an interview about how everyone seems to want to isolate him. To prove he wasn’t the weak link in the Motor City Machine Guns, he issued an open challenge to either member of XXXL. This week on IMPACT! Wrestling, Sabin defeated Romero with his educated feet. Later on, he had a meeting with the recently returned James Storm, who offered to even the odds in a tag team match this Saturday night!

Moose vs Willie Mack

At Bound For Glory, Moose emphatically defeated EC3 and took back his TNA World Heavyweight Championship. The following week, Moose made it clear to Rich Swann that his IMPACT World Championship is the 2nd best prize in IMPACT! Wrestling. Later in the show, Swann’s friend Willie Mack spoke with a fan outside of Skyway Studios only to be jumped by Moose. Last week, Moose called out Rich Swann in a promo, but Willie Mack was waiting to strike. What Willie didn’t expect was for Moose to leave him lying outside of the ring. This week, Moose attacked Willie Mack following his medical examination. Will he be able to fend off Moose on Saturday night or has Moose’s beatdowns left him unfit to fight?

IMPACT Wrestling Presents Turning Point 2020
Tenille Dashwood & Jordynne Grace vs Taya Valkyrie & Rosemary

At Bound For Glory, we learned that IMPACT! Wrestling is reviving the Knockouts Tag Team Championship, and not a moment too soon. The tag team action in the Knockouts division has been the best kept secret of IMPACT! Wrestling in recent months, and we’ve seen several duos formed in the division. However, there are a significant number of knockouts who don’t have tag team partners, including Tenille Dashwood and Jordynne Grace. Dashwood tried teaming with Madison Rayne this week, but they didn’t gel properly. Last week, Jordynne Grace tried teaming with Alisha Edwards, but the communication wasn’t there. This Saturday night, the formerly bitter rivals will team up to face Taya Valkyrie and Rosemary. But can they function as a unit against the more experienced Taya and Rosemary? Whoever wins this match will gain much needed momentum as we head into the Knockouts Tag Team Championship Tournament.

Rohit Raju vs TBA – Defeat Rohit Challenge

Rohit Raju’s reign as X-Division champion has been an interesting one to say the least. Following his victory over Chris Bey at Emergence, he made Bey, TJP, and Trey Miguel face off in a triple threat match for #1 contendership. Trey Miguel won, and Rohit offered him the championship match immediately after, defeating him in short order with a roll-up. Then, at Victory Road, the Desi Hit Man issued the Defeat Rohit Challenge, an open challenge for the X-Division Championship. Willie Mack answered the challenge first, but Rohit retained the championship in a count-out loss. The following week, Jordynne Grace answered the challenge, pinning Rohit, only to have him reverse the championship clause on a technicality. At Bound For Glory, Rohit stole TJP’s pin on Chris Bey to retain the championship. Who will answer the challenge this time around? And will Rohit scamper away with the title again?

The Good Brothers vs The North (c) – IMPACT World Tag Team Championship

Photo / IMPACT

As mentioned before, The North attacked former champions The Motor City Machine Guns before the bell at Bound For Glory. This gave them the upper hand over the champions in the 4-way tag team match, which they won. The following week, Ethan Page picked a fight with The Good Brothers, dubbing them “The worst investment IMPACT Wrestling ever made.” Unfortunately, Page might have had a point. Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson entered IMPACT! Wrestling as the hottest free agents in tag team wrestling, but they have yet to win a big match. Over the past few weeks, however, The North and The Good Brothers have been escalating their rivalry. Last week, Gallows battled Page, and almost lost due to interference from Josh Alexander. This week Anderson defeated Alexander by DQ. With wins over The North in singles action, could The Good Brothers walk away the new tag team champions on Saturday night?

Sami Callihan vs Rich Swann (c) – IMPACT World Championship

Photo / IMPACT

Rich Swann did quite a lot of celebrating following his victory over Eric Young in their championship rematch. After meeting with Willie Mack and The Rascalz, he ran into Sami Callihan and Ken Shamrock backstage. Shamrock and Callihan both made it clear they would be coming after Swann and his IMPACT World Championship. Last week on IMPACT! Wrestling, Sami Callihan joined forces with Young to defeat Swann and former champion Eddie Edwards in tag team action. This week, we learned that Callihan may have enlisted Chris Bey, who helped in a beatdown on Eddie Edwards. At Turning Point, Rich Swann and Sami Callihan will clash in a rematch from last year’s No Surrender. However, this time, their roles are reversed, as Sami is challenging Swann for the title. Callihan already had Ken Shamrock in his corner, but will we see more from Chris Bey or Eric Young on Saturday Night?

Deonna Purrazzo vs Su Yung (c) – Knockouts Championship No-DQ Match

At Bound For Glory, Deonna Purrazzo was scheduled to defend her Knockouts Championship against #1 Contender Kylie Rae. However, matters beyond her control forced Kylie Rae to retire from pro wrestling. The Virtuosa is a quick thinker, though, and decided to move forward by issuing an open challenge. What she didn’t expect was the return of Su Yung. The villainous Undead Bride captured the Knockouts Championship that night, and Deonna Purrazzo didn’t take well to the loss. The following week on IMPACT! Wrestling, she threatened legal action against IMPACT! Wrestling if she wasn’t awarded the title. Scott D’Amore offered her a rematch, which took place the following week, but ended in disqualification. Last week, Scott D’Amore spoke with Purrazzo’s lawyer, agreeing that this wasn’t the rematch she was promised, and offered to make a no-disqualification match at Turning Point.
