Brace For IMPACT for 8/12/21! (#1 Contender’s Battle Royal!)

Around this time last year, IMPACT Wrestling produced Emergence, a history-making two-night special event. The inaugural Emergence went down so well that IMPACT Wrestling is doing it again this year. In the ramp-up to this year’s Emergence, we’ve determined the new #1 contender to the X-Division championship, and we have a triple threat match for the IMPACT World Tag Team Titles lined up. However, we still don’t know who will be facing IMPACT World Champion Kenny Omega or Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo. With August 20th only a week away, it’s time to get things into gear. Brace For IMPACT for 8/12/21 as we outline what you can expect this Thursday night in Nashville on AXS TV.

Taylor Wilde vs Tenille Dashwood (w/Kaleb With a K)

After Under Seige, Taylor Wilde stepped away from the ring for almost 2 months. On July 29th, she returned in full vigor to take on Kaleb With a K in intergender singles action.  With Kaleb in the ring and Dashwood on the outside, they had their roles reversed. That may have played a role in Wildes’ victory via bridging German suplex. Now Dashwood wants a piece of Wilde for herself, and she’ll get her chance this Thursday night.

However, there may be more to this match than meets the eye. With Thunder Rosa in her rearview mirror, Deonna Purrazzo has no challengers in front of her. A win on Thursday night could push one of these hungry contenders closer to The Virtuosa and her Knockouts Championship.

FinJuice vs Chris Bey & Jay White

In the leadup to Slammiversary, Trey Miguel said something interesting to Chris Bey. When the X-Division seemed to be at war, Miguel told Bey to pick a side before a side picked him. In the end, Bey walked his own path, choosing to side neither with Miguel and Petey Williams nor with Rojit Raju and Ace Austin. However, this likely drew the attention of “Switchblade” Jay White. When the Bullet Club leader made his IMPACT Wrestling TV debut, he offered Chris Bey a spot in the infamous and illustrious stable.

To prove his worth, White had Bey face Juice Robinson last week in singles action. Bey managed to seal not only the victory but his spot in Bullet Club with his springboard cutter. This week, Juice Robinson and David Finlay are out to settle the score as they face IMPACT Wrestling’s arm of Bullet Club in tag team action.

Daivari vs Josh Alexander

Last week on IMPACT, Daivari faced Jake Something, Trey Miguel, and Rohit Raju for #1 Contendership to the X-Division Championship. By the end of the night, the up-and-coming Jake Something had earned his first-ever championship match in IMPACT Wrestling. However, the X-Division Champion hasn’t been around IMPACT Wrestling much lately. Between his work on NJPW Strong and various indie promotions, Josh Alexander has been spread sorta thin. This week we’ll see if that affects him as he takes on Daivari in singles action.

#1 Contender’s Battle Royal

At Slammiversary, Kenny Omega defeated Sami Callihan to retain the IMPACT World Championship. Following the No DQ victory, there are few wrestlers in the IMPACT locker room with the qualifications to challenge for the world title. To rectify this, IMPACT Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore has announced there will be a Battle Royal on Thursday night. Eliminations are over the top rope and the last man standing gets a shot at the IMPACT World Championship.

At the outset, it’s anybody’s match, but there are some names to watch. Rich Swann is due a championship rematch, along with Moose and Sami Callihan. Chris Sabin is top champion material, which would give him something to do while Alex Shelley recovers. We’ll have to find out who’s next for Kenny Omega in this Thursday night Battle Royal for #1 Contendership.

What Else To Expect

  • Matt Cardona in action!
  • Sam Adonis, brother of WWE’s Corey Graves, debuts on Before The IMPACT
