AEW Rampage for 7/29/22 (Trios Match Warfare!)

This week’s preview of AEW Rampage for 7/29/22 comes on the heels of an exciting edition of AEW Dynamite during week Fight for the Fallen. It features four matches, including a teacher versus student, a grudge match, and a trios match, involving one man that hasn’t competed since 2017. We will also see a match involving Men of the Year’s Ethan Page as he takes on a former NXT talent in Leon Ruffin.

It is sure to be an exciting show with it being only weeks away from All Out. Here is our AEW Rampage for 7/29/22 preview.

Teacher vs. Student
Matt Sydal vs. Lee Moriarty

What has to be going through the mind of Lee Moriarty? A couple of weeks ago, he was teaming with the former ROH World Champion. The following week he was challenging for the ROH World Championship. On this night, he faces someone who has guided him in his journey in AEW.

The question one has to ask about this match does it ultimately lead to something for either talent? For Sydal, is his role to elevate emerging talent? Lee Moriarty can stand on his own, and this match may very well be his coming out party in doing so. While Sydal is in the role of mentor, that isn’t to say he still couldn’t teach Moriarty something he hasn’t seen from him before in this match.

Ethan Page vs. Leon Ruffin

For anyone that isn’t familiar with Leon Ruffin, he was someone that captured the NXT North American Championship during his time with the WWE’s third brand. On Friday, he faces someone that is just as hungry and likely just as frustrated at being passed over with his skillset. Page has been the mouthpiece as part of Men of the Year, but now the question is, will he begin to move further up the card now that Scorpio Sky is no longer the TNT Champion?

There will come a time when Page will want to and should stand alone. While the addition of Dan Lambert has been welcomed for him in the past, a win her against Ruffin could be the start of him moving in the direction. Men of the Year may become MAN of the Year.

Anna Jay vs. Ruby Soho

On this past week’s edition of Dynamite, fans witnessed Anna JayAS come to support fellow Jericho Appreciation Society members Tay Conti and Sammy Guevara. Jay’s blindsided attack of Skye Blue prompted Kingston, Ortiz, and Ruby Soho to come out. Soho comes into this match with a cast on her hand and revenge on her mind. It has been far too often where Soho has taken a backseat, and she won’t allow herself to be the one to do it anymore.

A match here against Anna Jay may not result in a win as she will likely be outnumbered, but it could very well be an opportunity for her to shine. Maybe, Skye Blue comes out and comes to Soho’s aid? What could be may very well be what won’t be, however? Soho does need more female backup, and if anyone does come to her aid, it should be a former WWE/NXT talent, possibly Athena being the one in that role.

Trios Match
Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt vs. Orange Cassidy and Best Friends

This match came about this past week on Dynamite during a backstage promo. It was amusing to see Dutt puff out his chest, saying it’s on this Friday, only for him to panic moments after accepting the challenge. The Primetime Playa from the Himalayas for anyone that hasn’t seen Dutt’s work will see someone so committed to his craft. Will he bump?

It’s more than likely, but it will need to make sense. It’s clear that Satnam Singh is the greenest of all six men in the ring, and his time in the match could be minimal or tied to a significant spot. If this match leads to an ongoing feud between Lethal and Cassidy, there is nothing wrong with that, as it is sure to be
