AEW Rampage for 5/20/22 (Women’s Tournament Quarterfinals)

This week’s preview of AEW Rampage for 5/20/22 is an intriguing one. It features four matches, including a quarterfinals match in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament between two former friends. The first match announced appears more to have a mystery opponent tied to it as Shawn Spears faces ‘A Giant.’ Who could that ‘giant’ be? With Tony Khan’s ability to often spring surprises on fans, whoever it is could be a pleasant surprise.

The remaining two matches are multi-person matches, both with settles to either score or statements to be made. Can we anticipate feuds to be furthered along on this night? Here is our AEW Rampage preview for 5/20/22.

Shawn Spears vs. “A Giant”

On this 7 pm, eastern staring episode of AEW Rampage, the chairman of AEW faces a mystery opponent. While it isn’t disclosed who it could be facing, there are those that are possibilities on who it might be. Fans will recall just recently, W.Morrissey was a hired gun by MJF to face Wardlow. Wardlow didn’t just beat Morrissey; he beat him in less than five minutes.

Could Morrissey once again appear looking to exact revenge on MJF because he was made to look bad? Or could we see another person come in and be the giant that faces Spears? Erick Redbeard has competed on more than one occasion in AEW. So this could be another instance in which he competes for the promotion. Or it could be someone different altogether that faces Spears.

Red Velvet vs. Kris Statlander

This past week’s episode of Dynamite saw both women exchange words leading up to this matchup. As mentioned in the promo, the two were once allies. But as times changed, so have their allegiances. So while Velvet was once Statlander’s friend, she has now joined Jade Cargill as part of her baddies section. But their exchange was somewhat awkward as they pointed out the obvious leading into their match.

By obvious, ‘we were once friends, and now we aren’t as people change.’ That pretty much sums up their feelings towards one another as the winner prepares to move on to the semifinals. A win her by either woman is very much needed. It is interesting to note that Velvet’s rivalry with Cargill certainly reads like if you can’t beat them, join them.

House of Black vs. Evil Uno, 10 & Fuego Del Sol

Fuego and House of Black’s issues with one another aren’t going away easily. This match is proof that if their issues is finally coming to a head. However, this time Fuego has backup in the way of Evil Uno and 10. As The Dark Order have further come together, the alliance with Fuego is precisely what he needs. The problem is he faces three men hell-bent on not just beating him but bludgeoning him and the rest of the Dark Order in the process.

Black, Matthews, and King are as intimidating as they are ominous. But as they face this trio, Death Triangle is not far behind, lying in wait. If things in this match are set to get sideways, they best be worried about Penta, Fenix, and Pac.

Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson vs. Dante Martin & Matt Sydal

As much as Sydal and Martin want to ensure their place on the card is safe, they are in over their heads. They stand across the ring from two men who do not seek violence but live and breathe it. But they best be aware that for as much as they’ll be focused on this match that they will likely have the Jericho Appreciation Society breathing down their neck.

Could they stay clear of any altercation with JAS? This week’s episode of Rampage will likely answer that question.

What To Expect

  • Further, build to the TNT Championship as Scorpio Sky addresses future contenders.
  • Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy address Strickland, Lee, Hobbs, and Starks ahead of their Double or Nothing AEW Tag Team Championship match.
  • Thunder Rosa addresses this week’s attack on her by challenger Serena Deeb.
