AEW Rampage for 12/30/22 (New Year’s Smash)

On Friday, December 23rd, AEW Rampage for 12/30/22 features three matches and two promos going into the show. One of the matches actually didn’t need any build to it but rather had to pull from their history with one another to book the match. The other two matches, however, have the typical last-minute booking feel to them that has become synonymous with AEW Rampage.

Will new champions be crowned? Will friendships come to an end? Here is our preview of AEW Rampage for 12/30/22 to find out.

We’ll hear from AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter.

Last week, Hayter was part of one of the best AEW Women’s matches in recent memory. She stood across the ring from a former AEW Women’s champion in Hikaru Shida. This match was a buzz on social media. It appeared to be all that anyone seemed to talk about.

But once the match came to an end, there were other variables that came into play. Those variables included; Saraya, Toni Storm, Britt Baker, and Rebel. What will Hayter have to say? Will she address the potential threat of a re-match between herself and Toni Storm? Could Saraya be looking for a title match? Or does she have to look at her friends with….concern?

Swerve Strickland vs. Wheeler Yuta

During the Mogal Affiliates interview backstage, ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta came out to confront Swerve Strickland. In no uncertain terms, Yuta came out and addressed what happened to Keith Lee. He said that it was simple for Swerve to address someone that wasn’t there to speak for himself.

At that moment, Yuta had made it clear that he wanted Swerve and wanted to do so this week. The concern is that a singles win by Swerve seems like a certainty of how it happens seems to be with the help of his affiliates.

What fans can be aware of is that a friend of Lee’s has been watching to see what’s happening here and is looking to get his hands on Strickland and company as well. Shane Taylor may play a role in this feud between Strickland and Lee as well.

TBS Championship

Jade Cargill (c) vs. Kiera Hogan

As one of Cargill’s original baddies, you would think that Kiera Hogan held more value to her. Unfortunately, what happened with the return of Red Velvet from injury and the inclusion of Leila Grey was that Hogan’s role in the faction became expendable. So in no uncertain terms, Sterling Mark terminated Hogan’s place in the baddies effective immediately.

Hogan is now free to not only look for retribution but to come in and show Cargill that her being released would be something Jade would regret. The match will be interesting because Cargill has blown through the entire brand, wiping out everyone in her path. Will Hogan shock the TBS Champion on this night?

Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Trent Beretta

It is almost comical how most of Cassidy’s championship defenses come about. This instance was no different. As Kip Sabian boasted about how he eliminated Cassidy from the Three King’s Trios Battle Royal, he neglected one thing. He was immediately eliminated by Trent Beretta after Sabian eliminated Orange Cassidy.

What began as his demand for a championship opportunity resulted in a championship opportunity for Cassidy’s alley in Trent Beretta. Will it be hard-hitting? It’s almost a certainty. But will it also be a match with comical moments and light-heartedness? That is also a certainty as well.

As this match takes place, there is a strong sense that Kip Sabian won’t be far away either. He has a vested interest in what takes place here.

We’ll Hear from Jon Moxley

On this past week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, we saw Moxley and his BCC faction mate Claudio Castagnoli defeat Top Flight. But while the match likely kept him sharp, it is who he is looking to settle the score with that is of greater importance to Moxley. Will Hangman Page interrupt this promo by Moxley?

Page and Moxley appear destined to face one another in a one-on-one match at Revolution, and in doing so, the stakes likely couldn’t be higher. The winner will have to be in contention for an AEW World Championship.

What To Expect:

  • Matches announced for next week’s edition of AEW Dynamite
  • Response by Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett about The Acclaimed’s rap this past week
  • Further analysis of the upcoming first-time-ever bout between Chris Jericho and Ricky Starks
