AEW Rampage for 1/21/22 (Jon Moxley’s In-ring Return!)

As we preview AEW Rampage for 1/21/22, a number of exciting possibilities can come from each of this week’s scheduled matches. First, fans will witness the official in-ring return of Jon Moxley in AEW. He appeared on this last week’s episode of Dynamite, leaving an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. So who would step up and challenge the former AEW World Champion?

We will also see the return of the former four-time IWGP Jr Heavyweight Tag Team Champions in Roppongi Vice. At least we will for one night at least. Finally, fans will witness Team Taz’s most talked about talent and possibly in AEW in Friday Night HOOK. Who walks out on this night on top and prove that they will walk into Beach Break as a threat to the AEW or TNT Champion?

Jon Moxley vs. ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page

Wild thing he makes your heart sing! With the return of Jon Moxley this past Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite, we are reminded of the last words he left fans with this past week. ‘The only thing I drink now is blood.’ The sheer intense emotion that Moxley evoked from that statement speaks for itself. But, speaking of statements, a rather scathing one that aired this past week from a fan led Moxley to respond accordingly.

Due to the nature of the initial comment and the subsequent response, we won’t share the colorful language. But rest assured, someone got the F-out. For Ethan Page, he immediately stepped up to Moxley’s challenge during a backstage interview. Page has delivered exceptional promos, and this one was another opportunity for fans to push himself at the case of the returning Jon Moxley.

Roppongi Vice (Trent Beretta & Rocky Romero) vs. The Young Bucks

As a match just announced this week, it brings with it a battle with a history behind it. Fans are well aware that Rocky Romero is an active member of the NJPW roster and has been a part of the CHAOS faction led by Kazuchika Okada. Fans are also mindful that Trent Beretta has been a longstanding member of the Best Friends team with Chuckie T that; some may not be aw is that both Beretta and Romero had a longstanding history to get as multi-time tag team champions.

As for Roppongi Vice, the duo brought just as much humor to their matches as they did technical prowess. This night the pair of Beretta and Romero will come together one more time and battle the Young Bucks, whom they have fought over the IWGP Jr Tag Team ChWrestling’swith time and time again. However, it is championship success alongside Romero that has long been missing for Beretta as part of Best Friends. Regardless of who the winners are of the match, the reaction and response by those in attendance are sure to speak for themselves.

HOOK vs. Serpentico

The rising popularity of HOOK seems to be tied to Friday nights. For the son of Taz and Team Taz member, his climb and fans’ ability to gravitate towards him is unmistakable. This time he faces Serpentico. As a longstanding member of the roster, very little has been shared about him during his time in All Elite Wrestling. As a twelve-year veteran and member of the Chaos Project alongside Luther, Serpentico really hasn’t had an opportunity to excel.

A match on Rampage gives not only HOOK but Serpentico a platform to perform. Will this be another match where Team Taz sends HOOK? Or will Serpentico come out of nowhere and absolutely shock everyone in AEW?

For the TBS Championship, Jade Cargill (shown on the left) defends her championship against Anna Jay (shown on the right) [Photo: AEW]

Jade Cargill (c) with Mark Sterling vs. Anna Jay with John Silver

During this past week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, Anna Jay, accompanied by John Silver, would challenge Cargill for her AEW TBS Championship. The undefeated Cargill was quick to accept the challenge. Cargill also shared that she will beat Anna Jay because she is ‘That B**ch Show’ champion. It is a clever way to include her catchphrase while accepting the title challenge.

Interestingly, it is Jay challenging for the title and not Tay Conti. Now that could be because Tay is away at the moment and may exact revenge in the event that Jade defeats Anna. So does Jade retain her title, or are we looking at a new AEW TBS Champion in Anna Jay?

What To Expect

  • Will Best Friends, reDRagon, or Adam Cole get involved this evening?
  • Will Scorpio Sky and Dan Lambert play a factor in this week’s Mox/Page match-up?
  • Anna Jay and Jade Cargill are set to contend for the title.
