AEW Dynamite IGNITE for 09/20/23
Claudio Castagnoli (c) vs. Eddie Kingston (c)
(Winner Takes All: ROH World Championship and NJPW Strong Openweight Championship)

Eddie Kingston really hates Claudio Castagnoli. This has been well known in pro wrestling circles for years. Kingston has missed opportunities to get some revenge against Castagnoli at ROH Supercard of Honor and AEW All Out. Can Kingston finally get revenge in front of his fellow New Yorkers?

This match will be Winner Takes All. The winner will win the Ring of Honor World Championship and NJPW Strong Openweight Championship. Kingston won the most important singles title of his career, the Strong Openweight Championship at NJPW Independence Day on July 5, 2023.

Kingston is a proud fighting champion. Losing that title to Claudio in front of a New York crowd? That might just send Kingston over the edge.

Jon Moxley (c) vs. Rey Fenix
(AEW International Championship)

Jon Moxley has certainly been a fighting champion since winning the AEW International Championship at AEW All Out. He has already defended it against AR Fox, Action Andretti and Big Bill. But in front of the New York crowd, he is facing an old rival.

The last time Rey Fenix faced Jon Moxley, he was on the receiving end of a crowbar and it cost him a spot in Stadium Stampede at AEW All In. Rey Fenix would like nothing better than to take the AEW International Championship from Moxley. Can Rey Fenix get his revenge?

Saraya (c)  vs. Toni Storm
(AEW Women’s World Championship)

Saraya will be defending her AEW Women’s World Championship for the first time since winning it at AEW All In. She will defend that title against a very familiar face. It is her Outcast ally and former champion, Toni Storm.

Toni Storm has been a bit unstable in recent weeks. She has thrown shoes and even sprayed paint in the face of her ally, Ruby Soho. This erratic behavior seemed to start after Storm lost the AEW Women’s World Championship to Hikaru Shida. What will happen on Wednesday night if she loses again? It will be something to behold for sure.

Chris Jericho vs. Sammy Guevara

This is a match four years in the making. Sammy Guevara has been an ally of Chris Jericho since the very first night of AEW Dynamite on October 2, 2019. They have been a part of the Inner Circle, Jericho Appreciation Society and Le Sex Gods together.

But in recent weeks, Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho have not been working well as a duo. They believe that a singles match against each other will resolve their differences. It will finally happen at AEW Grand Slam.

This really is a match between the mentor and protege. Can Sammy Guevara defeat his ally of four years and be truly freed of Jericho’s shadow? It could be a star-making moment for Guevara at Grand Slam unless Jericho stops him.

MJF (c) vs. Samoa Joe
(AEW World Championship)

At AEW All Out, Samoa Joe bumped and disrespected MJF. The AEW World Champion didn’t take it well. This was apparently not the first time in his career that Samoa Joe has shown a lack of respect to MJF.

The World Champion was furious but didn’t want to face Samoa Joe unless he won the eight-man Grand Slam World Championship Eliminator Tournament. And Samoa Joe did just that last week on AEW Dynamite.

It is certainly a different test for the AEW World Champion. Samoa Joe might be even better at mind games than MJF is. When you add in the fact that MJF has a hurt neck, could this finally be enough to end the 300+ day reign? It will certainly be fun to find out on a truly special card.

What To Expect:

  • Will we learn more matches about WrestleDream?
  • Will we have any surprise debuts on AEW Grand Slam?
  • What titles will change hands on Wednesday night?
