WWE Announces “Swerve” vs. Strong For Tonight’s Episode of #NXTonUSA

With tonight marking as the second round of the ‘Wednesday Night Wars’, both NXT on USA and AEW Dynamite are looking to bring out the heavy hitters for their respective television shows with Isiah ‘Swerve’ Scott facing Roderick Strong.

But after already announcing a huge one-on-one match between the returning Lio Rush vs. Drew Gulak for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, we get another announcement from WWE that is sure to be a dream match in many fans eyes.

Announced by Kayla Braxton this morning on WWE’s variety talk show, The Bump, former NXT Breakout Tournament semi-finalist and frequent 205 Live competitor Isaiah “Swerve” Scott will face off against the current reigning NXT North American Champion, Roderick Strong.

This will mark the first match for the Undisputed Era’s Roderick Strong since winning the North American title from Velveteen Dream 2 weeks ago on the black and gold brand. For Isaiah Scott, he’s looking to continue his winning ways since his last contest, a win on 205 Live for Oney Lorcan’s team on August 20th.

This non-title match will mark only the second time these two superstars have faced each other in a WWE with the previous contest taking place on May 8th at an NXT live event in Largo, Florida.

With the build towards NXT War Games in full effect, it will be interesting what WWE does for Roderick’s title defense with Velveteen still suffering from a back injury.

Also on scheduled on tonight’s show will be an epic face-off between reigning WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER and Japanese superstar KUSHIDA.

Caul’s Call: In my opinion, this has the makings of  “Match of the Night” quality on both NXT and AEW. I’ve been a fan of Swerve since his reign as Heavyweights Champion in MLW. A win here could be huge for a wide-open North American title picture.
