#Review: PCW ULTRA Mutiny – Episode 18

This 18th episode of PCW ULTRA’s Mutiny aired on November 15 on their Youtube channel. Just a couple of weeks away from Wrestle Summit II. PCW ULTRA will be invading Washington Hall in Seattle on November 30 and December 1st. It is a two-day multi-league wrestling extravaganza which also includes DEFY and PROGRESS Wrestling.

In this episode of Mutiny, PCW ULTRA takes us back to the first Wrestle Summit in March. Here, Artemis Spencer defended his DEFY championship against Zachary Wentz. At Wrestle Summit II, Artemis Spencer will be taking on long-time rival El Phantasmo of New Japan Pro Wrestling. This match may very well steal the first night of the show.

Also, in the main event of this episode of PCW ULTRA Mutiny, Daga and Tessa Blanchard take on Taya Valkyrie and Johnny Ultra in a mixed-gender tag team match. This match is also from the first Wrestle Summit.

Announced on this episode, a tag team war will happen on the first night of Wrestle Summit II. Warbeast will put their DEFY and PCW ULTRA tag team titles on the line against their main rivals in DEFY: the former DEFY tag team champions Mike Santiago and Ethan HD of the Amerikan Gunz.  In the other corner, Carl and Big Jack Cunningham, known simply as the Cunninghams, will have their shot at the gold as well.

As with most of Warbeast’s title defenses, it can strongly be suggested that the brutality will amp up with “All Violence is Legal” stipulations in this match. By which there will be no disqualification and anything goes. Expect the chaos to spill over throughout the venue and weaponry to be used in sadistic ways.

Also announced on this episode of PCW ULTRA Mutiny, at the second night of Wrestle Summit, Jake Atlas will be taking on DEFY standout and the Pacific Northwest’s young rising star “Classic” Cody Chhun. Cody Chhun comes off the heels of a major win against Darby Allin a couple of months prior at DEFY Doomsayer.

If Atlas retains his PCW Ultralight championship on the first night of Wrestle Summit II against Douglas James, he will also put it on the line against Cody. Win or lose, it will be a major proving ground for Cody in taking on the Superstar Jake Atlas.

International superstar Jimmy Havoc returns to Seattle, Washington for the first night of Wrestle Summit II. He will be taking on Sonico, the Pacific Northwest luchador. He has just returned from his tour in Japan and makes his return to Washington Hall as well.

Finally, the PROGRESS Women’s Championship will be on the line the first night in Seattle, as Meiko Satomura defends it against Nicole Savoy.

Artemis Spencer(c) vs Zachary Wentz – DEFY Championship

The match began quickly, with Spencer nailing his springboard arm drag off the top rope.  The two quickly went to the outside of the ring, where they went back and forth jumping, ducking and dodging each others’ kicks and offensives at a pace normally only seen within a ring.

Artemis nailed a jaw-dropping moonsault off the top rope to the outside. It resembled more of a freefall onto Wentz. Finally, back in the ring, Wentz and Artemis brawled for some time. Trading chops, kicks and submissions, and running forearms.

Wentz ran towards the ropes and did a running handstand into springboard (similar to Tajiri’s famous springboard elbow maneuver). But as he sprung backward, Spencer caught him. He turned the momentum into a Saito suplex in one quick succession. Wentz was dropped on the back of his head and shoulders.

Spencer nailed Wentz with a running boot to the face. Followed by a powerbomb onto Spencer’s own knees, crippling the back of Wentz. But moments later, Wentz caught Spencer with a shin to his face to escape from a reverse suplex.

Going back and forth across the ropes, Wentz surprised Spencer with a springboard knee strike to his jaw, laying him out cold.

Wasting too much time mocking the crowd, Wentz was caught off guard on the top rope. As Spencer hoisted him back first onto his shoulders.

Spencer went for an inverted fireman’s carry, but Wentz landed on his feet. The two ensued with some impressive chain wrestling, dodging more kicks and offensives. Finally, Spencer unleashed an inverted suplex turned into a sidewalk slam. It dropped Wentz on the back of his head.

But Wentz still had some stamina in him, as he tripped Spencer face-first into the second rope. Then nailing Spencer with a springboard cutter off the top rope.

Wentz, frustrated, went for the springboard cutter a second time. But Spencer caught him and turned the maneuver into his own finishing move: the Suburban Neckwringer (an inverted scoop slam into a piledriver). Spencer went to the top rope and nailed his corkscrew Swanton bomb for the pinfall and win.
Winner: Artemis Spencer

Tessa Blanchard & Daga vs. Taya Valkyrie & Johnny Ultra

Daga and Johnny started the match pushing and shoving each other. Daga caught Johnny coming off the ropes with a dropkick.

Johnny and Taya fought back with some double team kicks against Daga. Taya was tagged in and worked down Daga with more kicks and chokes. Quickly tagging Johnny back in as they used their teamwork to work down Daga.

Tessa and Daga began tagging each other in, working down Taya. But Taya caught Tessa in a powerbomb with her last breath. Both competitors made the hot tags to Johnny and Daga.

Johnny and Daga ducked each other’s offensives, but Daga responded back with a series of hard kicks. Johnny quickly shifted the momentum as he leaped to the second rope and delivered a Spanish fly to Daga off the ropes.

Chaos ensued as the four of them brawled in the ring, trading blows. A few mishaps ensued and Johnny unintentionally kicked Tessa in the face as Taya spun his foot around. Daga responded by super kicking Taya in the head. Johnny and Daga both clotheslined each.

All four competitors lay on the mat, out cold like a train wreck. The referee began the count, as everyone slowly climbed to their feet.

Taya went to the top rope, but slipped, missing her moonsault. She clearly hurt her head there. Johnny compensated and nailed a 450 Splash onto Daga, but Tessa broke the pinfall. Taya nailed the spinning organami on Tessa.

Taya and Johnny took turns double teaming both Daga and Tessa. Johnny missed off the top rope as Tessa moved out of the way. Tessa jumped to the top rope and nailed her finisher on Taya. But Johnny snuck in from behind and nailed his finisher on Tessa.

Just as Johnny appeared to steal the win, Daga came back into the action and nailed his finishing move – a cross between a brainbuster and DDT. This scored Daga the pinfall and the win.
Winners: Daga and Tessa Blanchard

In next week’s episode of Mutiny, we discover how Warbeast became both the PCW ULTRA and DEFY tag team champions at the first Wrestle Summit show. They took on Sent 2 Slaughter and then-current DEFY tag team champions the One Percent in a three-way matchup. Next week’s Mutiny should air on PCW ULTRA’s Youtube channel at some point on Friday.

He avidly watches independent pro wrestling as an escape from the daily anxieties of life in general, and his logistics day job. Though a typical hermit, sometimes he'll actually leave his house to go to DEFY's shows.
