Beyond Wrestling Heavy Lies the Crown | Preview

Beyond Wrestling is ready to end 2018 with a bang! Following their sister promotion, Women’s Wrestling Revolution, hosting a Tournament for Tomorrow (TFT); Beyond is holding an event called Heavy Lies the Crown. This one is going down on New Year’s Eve, December 31st at the White Eagle in Worcester, MA. The bell is set to ring at 9:00 pm, but if you can’t make it don’t worry! Powerbomb.TV has got you covered, as this one will be streaming live! We present our review for Beyond Wrestling Heavy Lies the Crown.

First up on the docket for Heavy Lies the Crown, we have Simon Grimm taking on Timothy Thatcher. This one won’t be pretty. Both wrestlers know how to fight and grapple. Simon Grimm (also known as Simon Gotch for MLW) is a 17-year pro from Santa Rosa, CA, and is making his Beyond Wrestling debut. Grimm is perhaps best known for his time in WWE, however, that is not what defines him as a wrestler. Thatcher, a big and nasty grappler also from Southern California best known for his work as a member of Ringkampf and in EVOLVE. Thatcher returned to Beyond earlier this year after several years away from the promotion. This match will show that hard-hitting, old-school-style wrestling is alive and well as we bid farewell to 2018.

Next up we have a match that will be the total opposite of the one I just ran down. Two high-flyers are coming in hot and set to land at Heavy Lies the Crown. Matt Cross, the straight edge, punk rock American Ninja Warrior veteran touches down for the second time in 2018 for Beyond. At Beyond’s It’s Alive event on Halloween, he put on a stellar performance with Kris Statlander. Wins and losses may not mean much in the grand scheme of things as M-Dogg closes in on nearly 20 years in wrestling.

A win going into a new year though could prove to send him to even greater heights. His opponent is no slouch either, in Andrew Everett. The young man from North Carolina is a veteran of over a decade and has worked all over the world. He’s worked for promotions like IMPACT Wrestling, MLW, and Pro Wrestling NOAH. And as far as my research shows, this is a first time ever match up in a singles contest.

Our next match is something that on paper, you never thought you would see. We have Eddie Kingston, the Mad King who has recently returned to Beyond after being away for a few years. Fresh off his run in IMPACT Wrestling, he is eager to prove that he is still a force to be reckoned with. 2018 has been the improbable year for Stokely Hathaway. He is on a streak in Beyond, racking up victories against foes like UltraMantis Black, Colt Cabana, Orange Cassidy, and Icarus. This will definitely be a different kind of test for Hathaway.

Walters vs Wheeler

The next match we must talk about is John Walters versus Wheeler YUTA. Walters, also known as RJ Brewer, is coming off a huge victory over Jonathan Gresham at Beyond’s It’s Alive! Wheeler YUTA is a contender for the title of the ace of Beyond. Since first appearing with the promotion earlier this year, he’s had several show-stealing matches. He is also one half of the tag team known as Hot Wheelz with “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams. The Philadelphia native works for other promotions such as MLW, NOVA Pro Wrestling and CZW. Based on the competitors alone, this one has the match of the night potential.

Beaver Boys vs ??

Next, on tap, we have tag team action! The ace tag team of Beyond Wrestling are the Beaver Boys, John Silver, and Alex Reynolds. They will be taking on the winning team of the WWR Tournament for Tomorrow from the night before. With many possible and formidable opponents before them, the Beaver Boys had better be up to the challenge.

This next match will not be pretty either. The King of Ultraviolence, Nick Gage will be on hand at Heavy Lies the Crown. He will be taking on a one-man wrecking crew in Josh Briggs. Gage is well known for going to any lengths to get the win. He might, however, meet his match in the 6’8 destroyer from the WWN family of promotions.

Chris Dickinson vs. David Starr

This next match also has the possibility of being a show-stealer. When one has the conversation about who the ace of Beyond Wrestling is, these two names will be in the mix. Chris Dickinson is one half of Doom Patrol and has been a Beyond mainstay for several years. David Starr has also been a promotion mainstay in Beyond as well. Each has a great pure wrestling game as well as that intangible ‘it’ factor that makes them so very special. When these two elements combine, something special is sure to be created. This one is can’t miss!

Finally, we have the main event to talk about. “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams will be defending his Powerbomb.TV Independent Wrestling Championship for the 17th time. His opponent has arguably become the ace of Beyond Wrestling in 2018, Orange Cassidy. Cassidy defeated David Starr to become the number one contender to Williams’ championship. He’s had a couple of bumps in the road in the forms of Stokely Hathaway and BLANK. This is what he’s been working toward though, a chance to take the Powerbomb.TV Independent Wrestling Championship.

Different Challenges

Williams has been defending this title for over 300 days against many different challenges. And always, Williams has walked away still the champion. He’s defeated the likes of Tessa Blanchard and Jordynne Grace, Jonathan Gresham and Wheeler YUTA and many others. This will be the biggest test of the oft lethargic Orange Cassidy, who had better have enough juice to power him through this fight. Will Williams walk away again with the title still held high? There’s only one way to find out and that’s to check out Heavy Lies the Crown.

Heavy Lies the Crown, presented by Beyond Wrestling, takes place on December 31st from the White Eagle in Worcester, MA.
