Shawn Spears Signs with AEW | #NEWS

Earlier today, it was announced that Shawn Spears officially signs with All Elite Wrestling.

Prior to signing with AEW, Spears amassed nearly two decades of experience in professional wrestling. In addition to his work across various independent promotions, Spears was extensively involved in World Wrestling Entertainment. It was in WWE that he enjoyed popularity as “The Perfect 10,” Tye Dillinger. He became a popular figure in NXT, WWE’s developmental brand, before making his main roster debut in April of 2017. He would leave the company two years later.

Spears made his AEW debut at this past May’s pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, during the Casino Battle Royale. He entered the match as one of the “Diamonds,” a group of 5 competitors, before forming a brief alliance with Dustin Thomas. Spears was ultimately eliminated by Thomas. During the latest episode of “Road to Fyter Fest,” a video package of Spears played. Spears wondered if he made the right decision by leaving WWE. Cody, along with AEW Vice President of Business Operations Nik Sobic, saw his potential, not only as a future coach but a star.

Shawn Spears Signs with AEW

Sutter’s Synopsis: This is one of the more notable signees announced by AEW, mainly due to the fact that Shawn Spears was a popular figure in WWE beforehand. Though he wasn’t a main event player in WWE, the Tye Dillinger character was over with audiences; it didn’t hurt that his “10” chant caught figure, even when he was a heel. This, along with his work ethic, helped Dillinger as he continued to work for WWE.

As a member of the AEW roster, one must wonder what the future has in store for Spears. At age 38, while he may not be in the prime of his career, it cannot be understated that he has plenty to offer. Those that have watched “Breaking Ground” on the WWE Network saw that Spears can aid talent. His wealth of experience will be invaluable in AEW, especially as young talent is signed. Those that learn from Spears, whether by watching his promos or examining his matches, will be better as a result.
