#News: Kazuchika Okada Wants An All Star Wrestling Event

Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada has explained how he wants to have a huge wrestling event involving different promotions and wrestlers.

After being voted Tokyo Sports’ MVP for the fourth time in 2019, Okada accepted the award alongside one for the match of the year and sat down with the wrestling media.

Okada spoke about how, with the Olympics being hosted in Tokyo this year, he wants a pro-wrestling event that beats the Olympics.

He said: “Involve the best from all sorts of organizations, show that the power of pro wrestling is far greater than amateur wrestling at the Olympics.”

When asked about who would be involved in this and whether he would involve other promotions, he agreed and explained that they need to light a fire in the wrestling world and he is in a position to help grow the power of wrestling.

Okada described it as having an all-star card having met people at the award ceremony of different ages and from across the industry.

Former IWGP Jr Champion Will Ospreay has tweeted his approval of the idea and even put forward a potential opponent in the form of Japanese wrestler Marafuji.

In the interview, the Rainkmaker also speaks about his thoughts on receiving MVP award for an amazing 4th time and best match for the 6th year in a row; his loss at Wrestle Kingdom as well as his upcoming matches against Taichi and teaming with Jon Moxley on the New Beginnings Tour.

Even without a title around his waist, Kazuchika Okada is still one of the best wrestlers in the world and is passionate not only about climbing back up that title picture but spreading the word of wrestling. This seems to be a common motive of many wrestlers including the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kota Ibushi who have also taken on this responsibility.
