They say it’s impossible to forget your first love. It’s the familiarity… the look… the feel. It stays with you for a long as you shall live. That is many wrestling fans who always will love the world of pro wrestling… that includes the Chicago native, CM Punk. CM Punk Confirms He Is Open To A Potential Wrestling Return.
While promoting his upcoming horror movie, Girl On The Third Floor, Punk was a guest on Barstool Sports’ podcast My Moms Basement discussing all things movies and MMA. But of course, the question of a pro wrestling return came up and to many people’s surprise, Punk did not hold back about a potential return stating he would “absolutely” come back to the squared circle.
“For five years I’ve always been asked that question. No matter what I say, it gets reduced to clickbait and it gets warped. I’ve gone through some many iterations of people saying, ‘Oh, Punk hates wrestling.’ None of that was ever the case. I think I’ve always been open to it. My attitude has always been that I don’t see it happening. I think I’ve talked about it more recently, but my attitude hasn’t changed. People always ask what would it take to go back, and I say it would take a big bag. So people use their imaginations.”
However, the one key in the interview was his current feeling towards both WWE and AEW offering him their respective deals, summing it up stating “I’m that white whale in pro wrestling. I don’t know if that freaks people out on how to approach me, it is what it is. I’m open to the idea, I haven’t been approached properly. I’m not courting anyone to show up with a dozen roses at my front door.” But the former WWE Champion didn’t hold back on his feeling towards the Jacksonville-based promotion, “How many shows have they had? There is not a lot of content out there for me to be able to watch,” Punk stated. “I like The Young Bucks, I what they are doing, it is very punk rock.”
CM Punk Confirms He Is Open To A Potential Wrestling Return
Only time will tell what CM Punk decides, but it seems like Triple H is open to it. As stated on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show, the head of NXT creative seemingly opens the door for the Chicago-native to come back. “That’s a ‘could be’. Vince will say it all the time, ‘We’re open for business’. The past is passed, today is today and you never say never in WWE.”
Only time will tell if and/or when CM Punk will show up again in WWE, or even AEW for that matter. Until then, fans will continue to chant his name.
Caul’s Call:
One of my favorite wrestlers is CM Punk. Hell, I dressed up as him for Wrestlemania Axxess one year. Seeing him back in any aspect would be great but I won’t hold my breath. The court case, the loss of money during that ordeal… all of which cannot be forgotten. However, with a new contract deal with FOX for Smackdown and the ongoing balance of power in pro wrestling, Bringing CM Punk back to WWE in any capacity would be a big win for Vince and his company. Time will tell.
