A Back and Forth Contest

The match was the second-longest–only giving up one minute to the opener, Bobby Lashley versus Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship. The match had a ton of back and forth, with the KOD coming after a blocked Backstabber attempt by Sasha Banks. The finish came with such force, emphasis, and speed, that Smackdown commentator Michael Cole nearly called it a near-fall, rather than the end of Sasha Banks’ first reign as Smackdown Women’s Champion.

A Historic Match-up

The match lived up to the expectations of many, especially those who followed Belair’s tenure in NXT. Despite never being able to unseat then NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, Belair was well known for her strength, fighting spirit, and tenacity. The match holds significance as it is the first WrestleMania main event to feature two African-American women. That Banks and Belair were to put on a match worthy of praise. Regardless of that, historical significance is a testament to the current generation of women’s wrestlers in WWE.
