Anyone familiar with Jack Evans and Angelico, collectively known in All Elite Wrestling as The Hybrid 2, will know that they aren’t short on confidence. Though they have achieved much of their success in Mexico, they have also been able to succeed around the world. This was not only as a team but as singles stars. With Evans born in California and Angelico hailing from Johannesburg, they bring international experience to the AEW team division. At a combined weight of 377 lbs., we take a look at the tandem career of The Hybrid 2.
Though Evans’ career began in 2000 and Angelico’s in 2007, they didn’t start officially teaming until 2013. In Lucha Libre AAA World Wide, Angelico returned to the promotion that year, quickly forming a team with Evans; together, they were known as Los Gueros del Cielo, “The Sky Blondes” in Spanish. After working with the likes of Chessman, Argos, and Drago, Evans and Angelica had their first AAA pay-per-view match at TripleMania XXI. In a five-way elimination tag team match for the AAA World Tag Team Championship, they lost. Other teams included Drago and Fenix and eventual winners Joe Lider and Crazy Boy. Nonetheless, Los Gueros del Cielo soldiered on, picking up against names like Steve Pain and Pentagon Jr. In October, at Heroes Immortales VII, Evans and Angelico won a four-way elimination tag team match for the AAA World Tag Team Championship, ending 2013 on a high note.
The Hybrid 2
For the greater part of 2014, Evans and Angelico reigned as AAA World Tag Team Champions. They successfully defended the straps in all forms of tag team matches, including multi-team elimination matches. Picking up wins over the likes of Los Inferno Rockers and La Anarquia, it seemed like they were set to close out the year as champions. However, in December, they met their match at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event. It was here that Los Gueros del Cielo dropped the AAA World Tag Team Championship in a three-way match that included Fenix and Myzteziz and eventual winners Pentagon Jr. and Joe Lider, collectively known as Los Perros del Mal.
Despite their title loss the year prior, Los Gueros del Cielo started 2015 strong, picking up a TV victory over Los Hell Brothers, Chessman and Averno. Multiple tag team matches led Evans and Angelico to Verano de Escandolo, in June, which saw them compete against The Dark Family – Dark Cuervo and Dark Escoria – in a hair vs. hair cage match. Evans and Angelico emerged victorious in this well-received tag team cage bout, resulting in their rivals having their heads shaved.
Pro Wrestling Guerilla
In July, Evans and Angelico made their Pro Wrestling Guerrilla debut at the promotion’s Threemendous IV event. They challenged PWG World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks but were unsuccessful. They would return the following August, at the Battle of Los Angeles event, to defeat the team of Ricochet and Rich Swann. The duo went on to AAA TripleMania XXIII, competing in a three-way steel cage match that was won by Cibernetico, Chessman, and Averno. Though Evans and Angelico failed to win the AAA World Trios Title in said match, gold was in their future. At October’s Heroes Inmortales IX, Evans and Angelico triumphed in a three-way tag team match for the AAA World Tag Team Championship.

It’s also worth noting that, in 2015, Evans and Angelico made their debut for a wrestling-themed TV show: Lucha Underground. Though tag team partners in AAA, PWG, and the like, they were involved in different storylines in the Boyle Heights-centered Lucha Underground. In fact, the only times they touched were in multi-person matches. They achieved their own accolades in Lucha Underground, Angelico being an inaugural and two-time Trios Championship alongside Ivelisse and Son of Havoc and Evans winning the Trios Championship with Johnny Mundo and PJ Black and Angelico. As a team, however, their exploits existed elsewhere.
Injuries and Triumph
Though Evans and Angelico went into 2016 as the AAA World Tag Team Champions, the team would have to vacate the title in January due to a leg injury sustained by Angelico. Nonetheless, they would return in April, as a unit, immediately vying for the championship they never truly lost. In July, Evans and Angelico regained the AAA World Tag Team Championship in a three-way match, dropping it to Aero Star and Drago the following month at TripleMania XXIV. In September, Evans and Angelico appeared for Westside Xtreme Wrestling’s World Tag Team League tournament, competing in Block A. It was October, they made their way to the United Kingdom for IPW:UK, even competing for an opportunity for the promotion’s British Tag Team Championship.
2017 saw Evans and Angelico work for a number of promotions, including AAW and Fight Club: PRO. Though their exploits as a tag team were few and far between in 2018 – they had been involved in different companies in singles and tag team competition alike – they would reunite in 2019 under the banner of All Elite Wrestling. In May, Angelico teased on Twitter that it might have been “time for a change.” Speculation ran rampant among wrestling fans until it was confirmed that not only did Angelico sign with AEW, but Evans was coming with him. In short, AEW would have to be ready for Los Gueros Del Cielo.
The Hybrid 2 is All Elite
Evans and Angelico made their AEW debut at the promotion’s inaugural pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing, in May. They faced Chuck Taylor and Trent, collectively known as Best Friends, in a losing effort. They would go on to July’s Fight for the Fallen event, competing in a three-way tag team match that was won by Stu Grayson and Evil Uno, The Dark Order. The next month, Evans and Angelico competed against Private Party, Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen, in a losing effort at All Out’s Buy-In preshow. In the fall, they started to pick up victories against the likes of Best Friends and SoCal Uncensored in multi-man tag team matches. Evans and Angelico would also adopt the tag team name “The Hybrid 2,” and with the aforementioned victories under their belt, the cocky duo of Evans and Angelico may only become more braggadocious and driven.
Though The Hybrid 2 may be confident, perhaps to a fault, this mindset hasn’t been without merit. Over the years, Evans and Angelico have proven themselves in multiple types, from singles to tag to stipulation bouts involving steel cages. Evans and Angelico bring with them, to AEW, a wealth of experience between them and charisma wrapped in black and lime green attire. With a stacked AEW tag team division, The Hybrid 2 have AEW World Tag Team Championship gold on their mind and won’t stop until they add this accolade to their collective resume.
