AEW Dynamite Diatribe for (11/27/19)

This episode of AEW Dynamite is going to be big for one member of SCU. On this week’s show, in the main event, AEW World Tag Team Champion Scorpio Sky vies for singles gold, challenging Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship. Can Sky upset Jericho for the second time? Let’s dive deep into this Thanksgiving Eve edition of Dynamite on the Diatribe!

AEW Dynamite opens with a celebration in the ring, hosted by the former Virgil, Soul Train Jones. He calls Jericho to the ring, not to the sounds of “Judas” by Fozzy but a marching band on the ramp. He quickly shuts down “Thank You Jericho” chants. Jericho says that certain members in the crowd will find “50 cent off” coupons under their chairs. He goes on to plug his official “A Little Bit of the Bubbly,” which can be purchased! Jericho sprays the liquor before pouring a few glasses for himself and Jones. Jericho introduces the rest of The Inner Circle, who bring their own party favors to the ring.

Sammy Guevara takes the mic, giving his gift to Jericho. The gift in question turns out to be a cardboard cutout of Guevara and Jericho embracing! Santana and Ortiz give Jericho their own gift basket, including a 40 oz. in a brown paper bag. Jericho wonders where Jake Hager is. Not long after, Hager approaches the ring while leading a goat to the ring – Chris Jeri-Goat! Santana and Ortiz move to the largest gift box in the ring. They lift up the box, revealing Jericho’s father, Rangers alumni Ted Irvine! Father and son embrace in the ring. Irvine mistakes the town for “New York City,” which Jericho corrects him on. Irvine’s comments about the Chicago Blackhawks earn boos from the crowd. Rangers jerseys are passed around the ring.

Jericho invites Justin Roberts into the ring to read the written message he received from AEW brass. Roberts reads the message, which extends its gratitude to Jericho. Jericho says that he doesn’t like Roberts’ tone, which leads to him being beaten down by The Inner Circle. SCU, dressed as marching band members, storm the ring! Jones is taken down before SCU stands tall in the ring.

Match 1: Best Friends (Trent and Chuck Taylor) (w/Orange Cassidy) vs. The Lucha Bros. (Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr.)

Before Best Friends can make their way to the ring, they’re attacked on the ramp by The Lucha Bros! Best Friends start to fight back and Cassidy dives onto The Lucha Bros., taking them out! Best Friends roll their opponents into the ring, the opening bell for the first AEW Dynamite match beginning. Trent and Taylor attack their opponents in the corner before embracing in the ring. Trent and Fenix are the legal competitors to begin. The Lucha Bros. lay out Trent with tandem offense. Fenix tags Pentagon, hitting a combination on Trent for a two-count before we cut to commercial.

AEW Dynamite returns to Fenix in control of Trent before tagging Pentagon. He hits a low missile dropkick on Trent. Trent makes the tag to Taylor, who takes the fight to The Lucha Bros. Taylor cinches in a single leg crab on Pentagon, which Fenix quickly breaks up. Fenix inadvertently cannonballs Pentagon in the corner. They move to the outside and Taylor catches them with a tope! Back in the ring, Pentagon hits Trent with a Canadian Destroyer for a two-count. Cassidy taunts in the corner, giving Trent the opportunity to roll up Pentagon for a two-count.

Pentagon tags Fenix. Meanwhile, Pentagon stalks Cassidy before being laid out by Taylor. In the ring, Trent catches Fenix with the Crunchie for the 1… 2… 3!

Winners: Best Friends

We cut to AEW women’s rankings, sans champion Riho. Shida tops the chart at number one.

Match 2: Bea Priestley and Emi Sakura vs. Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida

Priestley and Sakura quickly attack their opponents. Statlander fights back in the ring before landing an apron moonsault on Priestley. Statlander follows up with a missile dropkick on Sakura before tagging Shida. On the outside, Shida props up a steel chair. Shida kicks Sakura off said chair and uses it as a launchpad to attack her. Priestley attacks Shida on the outside before rolling her back in. From commercial break, Priestley continues control over Shida before tagging Sakura. She escapes Shida’s sleeper hold and cinches in an abdominal stretch, using her mic stand in a taunting way. Sakura tags Priestley, who chokes Shida in the corner. Shida suplexes Sakura into the corner, colliding into Priestley in the process.

Shida starts to make her way to Statlander but Priestley catches her at the pass. Priestley lands a German suplex and Shida responds with a big knee! Shida tags Stalander and Priestley tags Sakura. Statlander takes control of Sakura, executing an Oklahoma roll before going for a pin attempt. Sakura lands a twisting facebuster followed by a cross body in the corner. Priestley follows up with a double stomp. Sakura lands a double underhook backbreaker on Statlander for a two-count. Statlander evades a moonsault and lands a kick to the head of Sakura. Shida hits Priestley with a falcon arrow and Statlander lands a scissor kick on Sakura! 1… 2… Sakura kicks out.

Statlander hits a Michinoku Driver on Sakura! 1… 2… Priestley breaks it up! Sakura uses the mic stand behind the official’s back, soon rolling up Statlander for the 1… 2… 3!

Winners: Bea Priestley and Emi Sakura

Post-match, the show cuts to a backstage promo with Jon Moxley. He wonders if anyone wishes to get him before he gets them. Moxley issues an open challenge.

Match 3: Cody vs. Matt Knicks

Cody and Knicks shake hands to begin. Knicks forces Cody in the corner before going to the knees. Cody fights back, hitting a springboard cutter from the middle rope. He throws his weight belt into the crowd before cinching the figure four leglock. Knicks has no choice but to tap out!

Winner: Cody

Following the match, Cody takes the mic, calling out MJF. From under the ring, a masked figure emerges. He removes the mask in question, revealing himself as The Blade! The Butcher follows from under the ring. They plant Cody in the center of the ring, standing tall. “The Bunny,” Allie, follows as she stands alongside The Blade and The Butcher.

Match 4: Pac vs. Kenny Omega

Pac forces Omega against the ropes to begin. Omega hits a shoulder tackle. They exchange fast-paced manuevers, Omega landing a snap dragon suplex! Omega buckle bombs Pac and follows up with a spinebuster for a two-count. With Pac on the outside, Omega lands a big tope! Omega rolls Pac in the ring, favoring his knee all the while. Pac dropkicks Omega off the apron an rolls him back in. Omega lands another snap dragon suplex! On the apron, Omega attempts a suplex to the outside mat. Pac counters and hits a moonsault to the outside before we cut to commercial.

AEW Dynamite returns to Pac in control of Omega in the ring. They exchange strikes before Omega kicks Pac into the corner! Omega hits a series of Polish Hammers on Pac before executing a fisherman buster for a near-fall. Pac regains control, but Omega fights back, only to be met with a big clothesline by The Bastard. Pac hits an avalanche falcon arrow! 1… 2… Omega kicks out! Pac attempts the Black Arrow, but Omega rolls out of the way. Omega follows up with the V-Trigger. Pac fights out of the One-Winged Angel and attempts a roll-up. Omega counters with a roll-up of his own for the 1… 2… 3!

Winner: Kenny Omega

Match 5: MJF (w/Wardlow) vs. Hangman Page (Dynamite Diamond Match)

Page starts strong by attacking MJF in the corner. MJF escapes to the outside, Wardlow protecting him from a potential dive. Page continues to attack MJF on the outside before bringing him back in, the show cutting to another commercial break. Back from said break, Page lands a fallaway slam, though he seems to be favoring his arm. Page hits a suicide dive on MJF before following up with a top rope moonsault to the outside!

Back in the ring, MJF takes advantage, using the official as a shield before poking Page in the eye. Page fights back, landing a Buckshot Lariat! 1… 2… Wardlow places MJF’s foot on the rope! With the official’s back turned, Wardlow catches Page with a right hand. MJF lands a Cross Rhodes for the 1… 2… 3!

Winner: MJF

Following the match, Diamond Dallas Page makes his way to the ring to present the Dynamite Diamond. DDP takes the mic, the crowd firmly behind him. He presents MJF with the ring, who slides it on his finger with a cocky expression on his face. DDP extends his hand to MJF in a congratulatory way. MJF responds with disrespect, causing them to stand off. Wardlow stands off with DDP, who warns him to back off. Wardlow takes hold of DDP, which brings out a number of officials to break them up.

After the break, Dustin Rhodes is interviewed in the center of the ring. Rhodes addresses Hager, who broke his arm, saying he’s out for his blood. Not long after, Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz storm the ring, attacking Rhodes! The Young Bucks storm the ring to even the odds, superkicking Santana and Ortiz. Guevara is soon caught with a trio of kicks! Rhodes and The Young Bucks hit a stereo Shattered Dreams on The Inner Circle!

AEW Dynamite cuts to a video segment, #JoinDarkOrder. Dark Order is presented as a cult, inviting those that believe others have failed them.

Match 6: Scorpio Sky vs. Chris Jericho (c) (AEW World Championship)

The match starts slow, Jericho dictating the pace. Jericho shoulder tackles Sky a number of times, but Sky fights back with a dropkick. Sky clotheslines Jericho to the outside and goes for a cross body. Jericho sidesteps, but Sky catches him with a boot. Back in the ring, Sky hits a sunset flip for a two-count. Sky follows up with a diving back elbow. On the apron, Sky goes for a headscissors, but Jericho counters. Jericho hits a dropkick, sending Sky to the outside as we go to commercial break.

AEW Dynamite comes back to Sky hitting a suplex on Jericho. The champion regains control for a short time until Sky catches him with a neckbreaker. Sky hits a Lou Thesz press followed by a series of punches. He lands another big dropkick and a springboard cutter for a two-count. Sky goes for a middle rope dropkick, but Jericho counters with a Liontamer! Sky slowly crawls to the rope and grabs hold. Jericho argues with the official, giving Sky the opportunity to land a cutter! Sky locks in the dragon sleeper hold.

Hager storms to the ring, Sky quickly knocking him off the apron. Jericho rolls up Sky for a two-count and they nail each other with clotheslines. Hager shouts at Sky from the apron, which brings out Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian to even the odds. Jericho takes the AEW World Championship as a weapon while the official’s back is turned. Sky counters into a TKO! 1… 2… Jericho kicks out! Sky catches Jericho on the middle rope with a hurricanrana followed by an enziguri for another two-count.

Jericho catches Sky with a Codebreaker! 1… 2… Sky kicks out! Sky counters with the Judas Effect with a backslide! 1… 2… Jericho kicks out! Jericho catches Sky’s leg and transitions into a Liontamer! Sky taps out!

Winner: Chris Jericho

After the match, Jericho continues the attack on Sky, locking in the Liontamer. Moxley’s music plays as he appears in the crowd! Jericho stares down Moxley as week’s episode of AEW Dynamite comes to a close.
