AEW Dynamite Diatribe for (10/30/19)

Since the inception of All Elite Wrestling, two inaugural AEW titleholders have been crowned. In this week’s episode of Dynamite, we see a tandem make similar history by competing for the opportunity to be called the first-ever AEW World Tag Team Champions. This and more will go down on this show. Without any further ado, let’s get underway!

The show opens with Tony Schiavone, who hypes the contract signing for Full Gear’s main event between Cody and AEW World Champion Chris Jericho. Schiavone greets Cody and Dustin Rhodes as they come out of their jet. Cody and Dustin embrace before Dustin walks off, Cody and Schiavone approaching the nearby limousine en route to the venue.

Match 1: Sammy Guevara vs. Hangman Page

Loud “Let’s Go Hangman” chants before the opening bell. Page powers Guevara against the ropes. Page lands a series of chops followed by a boot to Guevara’s face. Page hits a vertical suplex for a one-count. Guevara returns fire with a dropkick and taunts to the booing crowd. Guevara hits his own snap suplex but also gets a one-count. Page backs Guevara into the corner and slaps him across the face. Page catches Guevara off a cross body and hits a fallaway slam before clotheslining him out of the ring. Guevara pulls Page off the ring apron to cause him to drop on it. Guevara sends Page into the barricade before rolling him back in the ring.

Guevara hits a Samoan drop for a two-count. Guevara goes to the top rope, but jumps and lands on his feet, slapping Page across the head in a show of disrespect. Guevara lands a superkick and Page fires back with a big lariat in response! Page hits a backdrop on Guevara, who rolls onto the apron. Guevara escapes a Deadeye attempt, but Page drops him onto the apron with a sidewalk slam! Page lands a powerbomb in the ring! 1… 2… Guevara kicks out! With Guevara outside the ring, Page hits a big standing moonsault!

Back in the ring, Guevara stays grounded to avoid the Buckshot Lariat from Page. They exchange strikes before Page finally catches Guevara with the Buckshot Lariat for the 1… 2… 3!

Winner: Hangman Page

Post-match, Page takes the mic, saying that things weren’t going good for him lately. Nonetheless, at Full Gear, he plains to do “real cowboy shit” and take PAC’s head off. “Cowboy Shit” chants from the crowd follow.

Match 2: Shanna vs. Hikaru Shida

They exchange waistlocks to begin, Shanna targeting the arm. Shanna takes down Shida and follows up with a flipping neckbreaker. Shanna tosses Shida out of the ring. Shida catches Shanna off-guard as she goes for a dive. From under the ring, Shida brings out a chair, using it as a platform to hit a jumping running knee! Shida rolls Shanna back in the ring to continue the attack. Shida lands a backbreaker for a one-count. Shida hits a running knee in the corner, but it’s only good for a two-count. Shida stops Shanna’s momentum with a series of knees to the midsection. Shanna rolls up Shida! 1… 2… Shida kicks out!

Shida responds with a series of forearms to the back of Shanna’s head. Shida lands a stiff elbow, to which Shanna with a forearm of her own as we go to commercial. The show returns to Shanna fighting off a superplex attempt and landing a double stomp! 1… 2… Shida just kicks out! Shanna lands a running kick to the ribs and slaps Shida across the back. Shida hoists up Shanna to land a massive driver! With Shanna on the apron, Shida hoists her up for a superplex into the ring! 1… 2… Shanna kicks out!

Shanna avoids a running knee and rolls up Shida for a two-count. Shida rolls up Shanna, to which Shanna counters with a roll-up of her own for another close pinfall! Shida lands a running knee followed by a falcon arrow! 1… 2… Shanna kicks out! Shida finally hits the low running knee strike for the 1… 2… 3!

Winner: Hikaru Shida

We cut to a video package featuring Brandi Rhodes and Awesome Kong, showing that their alliance is as strong as ever. The video has a strong cult-like mood to it, with Rhodes appearing to be praying to evil spirits.

From there, we cut to Chris Van Vliet, who welcomes The Rock n Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson! They will be presenting the AEW World Tag Team Championship to the winner of the finals. Suddenly, they’re attacked from behind by Santana and Ortiz! They then hold up the titles before dropping them to the floor. They land a double powerbomb on Morton through the stage! The Young Bucks rush out, scaring off Santana and Ortiz, as they check on the fallen Morton.

The show cuts to Schiavone and Cody in the limo. Schiavone tells Cody a story about the time he met Willie Nelson, who would meet Dusty Rhodes during the night. Cody says he thinks about his father and expresses excitement about finally signing the contract. Schiavone instructs Cody to take his emotion, from his parents, to make him better at Full Gear.

Match 3: John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and QT Marshall vs. Best Friends (Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor) (w/Orange Cassidy)

Best Friends are called to the ring by Rick and Morty, who the trio are dressed as for this Halloween edition of AEW Dynamite! Taylor shoulder tackles Silver and tags in Beretta. They execute tandem offense while struggling to keep their wigs on. Silver rips Beretta’s wig off and it’s not long until the other members of Best Friends get involved. Beretta is hit with offense by the opposing team, but Beretta lands a swinging DDT on Silver! Beretta tags in Taylor, who lands a Sliced Bread on Marshall! Beretta tags himself back in and lands a running kick.

With Marshall standing in the center of the ring, Cassidy stands up to him. Cassidy hits a series of “devastating kicks” before dropkicking Marshall out of the ring! Cue the Friendmaker! Cassidy hits a tope out of the ring, hands in his pockets and all! Strong Zero from Beretta and Taylor is enough for the 1… 2… 3!

Winners: Best Friends

Jericho arrives on the stage for the contract signing for his title match against Cody at Full Gear. Cody arrives next alongside Schiavone, who will be officiating the signing. Cody signs the contract before passing it along to Jericho. He fakes out Cody for a fight before saying he doesn’t suck, as the crowd chants, but instead, Schiavone does. Jericho says that if Cody loses at Full Gear, it will prove that Cody isn’t as good as he thinks he is. He will sign the contract and teach Cody a lesson on what it’s like to be a loser. Jericho signs his name as Cody takes off his dress jacket, ready to fight. Jericho calms Cody down, saying that they’re two pros. Jericho says that, as champion, he has poise and class. He reaches out to shake Cody’s hand, but Cody pulls him close in a taunting fashion. Jericho says Cody may be needed elsewhere.

Guevara shows up on the screen, showing Jake Hager assaulting Dustin Rhodes outside! Hager lands a low blow on Dustin before slamming his head in the back of the limo! Hager finishes off by slamming the door on Dustin’s arm! Cody and Maxwell Jacob Friedman rush to Dustin’s aid as Jericho leaves with The Inner Circle, enjoying a cigar all the while.

Match 4: Kip Sabian and The Hybrid 2 (Jack Evans and Angelico) vs. Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson)

Megalovania from the video game Undertale plays, compete with a themed entrance video! Omega comes out dresses as Sans from the game in question and Nick and Matt come out dressed as Ryu and Ken, respectively, from the Street Fighter series. Before the bell can even begin, they’re attacked from behind by Sabian, Evans, and Angelico. Sabian lands a springboard senton on The Young Bucks while The Hybrid 2 gang up on Omega. He fires back with a double bulldog, but Sabian attacks from behind. The Young Bucks hits an assisted dropkick on Sabian. Double stomp from The Young Bucks is followed by “The Elite” chants.

Evans lands a springboard spinning kick on Omega followed by a cartwheel senton to the outside while The Young Bucks are attacked on the other side of the ring. With Sabian and Matt as the legal men, Matt fights out of a superplex attempt. However, Sabian catches him with a hurricanrana! 1… 2… Matt kicks out! Sabian tags in Evans, who tags in Angelico, keeping Matt in their corner. Angelico cinches in a leglock on Matt, but Omega breaks up the hold as we go to commercial. We come back to Matt nailing Sabian with a spear!

Tandem offense from The Young Bucks for the two-count! Matt avoids Deathly Gallows from Sabian and counters! Matt tags in Omega, who hits Evans with a snapdragon suplex before delivering one to Angelico! He takes Sabian out afterward. Evans avoids the V-Trigger and hits a cartwheel ax kick on Omega! Sabian lands a tornado DDT on Matt before eating a superkick by Nick! Evans hits a moonsault off Angelico’s back onto Nick on the outside! V-Trigger on Angelico in the ring!

Sabian tosses Omega out of the ring and taunts him afterward. He executes a diving senton out of the ring, but The Elite catch and powerbomb him onto the apron! Triple superkick to Evans is followed by the V-Trigger and One-Winged Angel for the 1… 2… 3!

Post-match, Santana and Ortiz, disguised in Rick and Morty masks in the crowd, attack The Young Bucks!

Peter Avalon and Leva Bate make their way to the ring. With a mic in hand, Avalon runs down Charleston, West Virginia. As Avalon speaks, Jon Moxley makes his way through the crowd before entering the ring, planting him with the Paradigm Shift! Moxley takes the mic and declares that his match against Omega at Full Gear will be unsanctioned. Moxley says that, due to this, the match won’t count in the records, which he takes issue with. Moxley says that AEW wants to put him in a box, which he dealt with for years. Moxley declares himself the baddest wrestler in AEW, giving himself the tag “unsanctionable.” At Full Gear, Moxley says, Omega’s blood will be on AEW’s hands. “Kiss my ass, stay the hell out of my way.”

Match 5: The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix) vs. SoCal Uncensored (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) (AEW World Tag Team Championship Finals)

Pentagon and Kazarian start things off. They trade lefts and rights, which brings out Fenix and Sky to do the same, SCU coming out on the better end of the exchange. The Lucha Brothers hit Kazarian with a double superkick before Pentagon lands a backstabber on Sky. Pumphandle driver from Pentagon on Kazarian for a two-count! Pentagon hits a sling blade on Sky. Fenix lands a running tightrope walk kick on Kazarian! SCU takes control again when Kazarian lands a rolling double clothesline on The Lucha Brothers!

Kazarian hits a springboard leg drop on the legal man, Fenix, before dropping a guillotine leg on Pentagon! Hurricanrana off the stairs from Sky on Pentagon! Kazarian lands a German suplex on Fenix for the two-count. Fenix rakes Kazarian’s eyes before landing a springboard arm drag, Pentagon landing a superkick on Sky on the outside as well. Fenix hits a leg drop on the outside of Kazarian before we go to commercial. The show returns to Fenix in control of Kazarian. Fenix lands a dropkick for a two-count. Kazarian fights back with the Angel’s Wings, Christopher Daniels’ finisher, before tagging in Sky!

Off the hot tag, Sky attacks both Lucha Brothers, taking down Pentagon with a hurricanrana. He follows up with a tope on Pentagon, but Fenix hits a baseball slide. Kazarian goes up top and hits a hurricanrana of his own! Assisted swinging DDT from SCU on Pentagon! Sky lands a spinning DDT on Fenix for a two-count. Pentagon hits a Canadian Destroyer on Kazarian before Fenix hits a cutter on Sky! 1… 2… Sky kicks out! Fenix and Sky collide with cross bodies. Pentagon plants Kazarian with a powerbomb through the table on the outside!

Back in the ring, Fenix hits an assisted splash on Sky! 1… 2… Sky kicks out! Fenix tags in Pentagon as The Lucha Brothers go for their finish. However, Sky rolls up Pentagon as Kazarian rushes in to fend off Fenix! 1… 2… 3! SCU WIN!

Kazarian and Sky celebrate in the ring, as the inaugural AEW World Tag Team Champions, as this week’s edition of Dynamite comes to a close.
