AEW Dynamite Diatribe for (10/23/19)

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite doesn’t waste time, as we start with our first match of the night!

Match 1: Private Party (Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy) vs. The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix) (Semifinal Tournament Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship)

Quen and Fenix start things off, exchanging fast-paced moves, with Quen leveling Fenix with a dropkick. Fenix hits a release German suplex, tagging in his brother, as The Lucha Brothers start to regain control. They level Quen with a chop across the chest. Quen starts to take control once again, though, dropkicking them before tagging in Kassidy. They use double team offense to take out Pentagon before doing the same to Fenix. Kassidy takes in Quen, assisting the latter in executing a high-flying senton over the top rope on Fenix!

Back in the ring, Kassidy hits Pentagon with a tornado DDT. Quen lands a 450 splash, but Pentagon kicks out at two! Pentagon regains control of Quen, who becomes the legal man, and Fenix lands a high double stomp! The Lucha Brothers continue their attack on Quen, but Kassidy starts to fight solo. The Lucha Brothers hit an assisted dropkick on Private Party before Fenix lands a big springboard moonsault on Kassidy on the outside! Pentagon hits the Pentagon Driver on Quen! 1… 2… Quen kicks out!

Pentagon tags in Fenix. Quen starts to fight back, tagging in Kassidy following an athletic display! Kassidy hits a middle rope springboard hurricanrana on Fenix and dispatches of Pentagon on the outside with an asai moonsault! Kassidy hits the crucifix bomb on Fenix for the two-count. Following a stunner on Fenix, Kassidy spinning dives to the outside on Pentagon! Meanwhile, in the ring, Quen hits another 450 splash on Fenix! 1… 2… Fenix kicks out!

Fenix lands a Gory Bomb/leg drop combination on Private Party before Pentagon makes his way back in the ring, landing offense on both competitors. Quen evades a double team maneuver from The Lucha Brothers and starts to fight back. Pentagon lands a Canadian Destroyer on Kassidy! Fenix hits a running kick to Quen’s face across the top rope before Pentagon snaps an armbreaker! The Lucha Brothers hit the piledriver/stomp combination for the 1… 2… 3! The Lucha Brothers advance to the finals!

The show cuts to a video package featuring Wardlow, hyping his upcoming debut.

Match 2: SoCal Uncensored (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) vs. Dark Order (Evil Uno and Stu Grayson) (Semifinal Tournament Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship)

Kazarian and Grayson start things off, Kazarian controlling the arm of his opponent. Uno comes into the ring to calm Grayson before sucker-punching Kazarian. Now as the legal man, Uno attacks Kazarian in the corner. Kazarian fires back with a striking combo before tagging in Sky, who hits Uno with a big dropkick! Uno regains control, tagging in Grayson before executing tag team offense on Sky. Sky fires back with a few clotheslines, but Uno catches him in the back with a kick. Nonetheless, Sky keeps control, tagging in Kazarian, who hits an elevated dropkick in the corner on Grayson.

Sky is tagged back in and is kicked with an overhead kick by Grayson. On the outside, Uno sends Sky into the steel steps before rolling him back inside. Grayson goes for the cover on Sky, who kicks out at two. The show returns from commercial break with Grayson still in control of Sky. Grayson tags in Uno, who continues the attack in the corner. Sky starts to fight back, but Uno halts his offense, landing a vertical suplex for the two-count. Meanwhile, The Inner Circle make their way through the crowd, flashing their tickets all the while.

Back in the ring, Uno wrenches the arm of Sky, gouging his face as well. Sky finally makes the tag to Kazarian, who takes it to Dark Order. Kazarian hits a running forearm, scoop slam, and a springboard leg drop on Grayson! Off the neckbreaker, Kazarian pins Grayson for the two-count. With Uno on the mat, Kazarian hits the northern lights suplex on Grayson for another near-fall. Kazarian is caught off the top turnbuckle. Grayson suplexes Sky into the corner on Kazarian, who is pinned for another two-count. Grayson launches Kazarian into Uno, who hits a sit-out powerbomb! 1… 2… Kazarian kicks out!

Sky makes the tag, executing a cutter on Uno! SCU cinch in stereo sleeper holds on Dark Order, but Grayson muscles Kazarian into Sky, breaking up the submissions. With Kazarian out of the ring, Sky tries to fight on his own. Grayson hits a plancha over the top turnbuckle on Kazarian! Meanwhile, Uno plants Sky in the center of the ring, but it’s only good for another two-count. Sky escapes The Fatality as SCU start to fight back strong. SCU hits Grayson with their double team maneuver for the 1… 2… 3! Kazarian and Sky advance to the finals! They will face The Lucha Brothers to determine the first-ever AEW World Tag Team Champions!

Match 3: Joey Janela vs. Kenny Omega

This AEW Dark rematch begins with both men jockeying for control. Omega takes down Janela, keeping pressure on the arm. Janela nips up and takes down Omega. Janela misses a sunset flip attempt, to which Omega responds with a kick, sending Janela to the outside. Leaping dive from Omega onto Janela! Omega rolls Janela back in the ring and attacks him in the corner. Omega misses a running corner splash and Janela responds with a running uppercut in the same corner! Janela rolls through a toss attempt by Omega and sends him to the outside. Janela comes off the top turnbuckle with a flying cross body on Omega to the floor! Back in the ring, 1… 2… Omega kicks out!

Omega starts to regain control as the show cuts to commercial. Back from break, Omega hits the rolling senton and goes for the moonsault, to which Janela responds by getting the knees up. Omega hits a snap dragon suplex followed by another! Janela escapes a third and hits a German suplex into the corner! Janela lands a flying elbow drop! 1… 2… Omega kicks out! They make their way to the top turnbuckle and Omega escapes, causing Janela to hit the top turnbuckle. Omega lands a knee! 1… 2… Janela kicks out!

Janela evades a V-Trigger attempt and hits a German suplex. Omega catches Janela with a knee, but Janela fires back with a brainbuster. Janela lands a huge clothesline! 1… 2… Omega kicks out! Janela misses a senton on the ring apron. Omega rolls Janela back inside and hits the V-Trigger followed by the One-Winged Angel for the 1… 2… 3!

Winner: Kenny Omega

Cody, dress suit and all, makes his way to the ring. Tony Schiavone joins him in the ring, saying that at Full Gear, on November 9th, Cody will face Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship. As Cody tries to speak, The Inner Circle blares air horns. Cody tells Jericho that this isn’t like “the other wrestling company” they came from and they could fight right now. Jericho tells the crowd to shut up and calls Cody a coward and a millennial little bitch. This incites Cody to take off his dress jacket, but Jericho tells him that it’s four to one, with him, Sammy Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz.

This brings out Dustin Rhodes, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and finally, Diamond Dallas Page! They hop the barricade and make their way to The Inner Circle, who escape to the back room. Using MJF’s scarf, Cody punches through the glass door and a brawl breaks out near the arena concession stands! Security intervenes as fans watch on, many of them cheering to see more.

Match 4: Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) (w/Orange Cassidy) vs. The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson)

Before the match, Cassidy interrupts The Young Bucks’ entrance pose. Cassidy hits two “vicious” kicks on them, to which they respond with a Superkick Party of their own! The match begins frantically, with Best Friends laying out The Young Bucks. Beretta and Nick, as the legal men, battle. Nick lands a facebuster on Beretta followed by a moonsault to the outside on Taylor! Nick tags in Matt as they hit a backbreaker/neckbreaker combination followed by an assisted dropkick on Taylor. They mockingly hug in the center of the ring, to which Best Friends respond by attacking them on the outside.

Taylor tosses Matt into Beretta, who executes a vicious spear! Doomsday Knee on Nick! Beretta chops Matt and launches him into the corner. In response, Matt hits a DDT on Taylor on the outside. Cassidy distracts Matt enough for Beretta to hit a baseball slide dropkick. Beretta clotheslines Matt to the outside before the show cuts to commercial. The show returns to Nick missing a 450 splash, Beretta hitting a big German suplex. Matt tags himself in and gets laid out with a suplex as well. Beretta proceeds to suplex Nick once more before tagging in Taylor.

Taylor hits a series of belly-to-belly suplexes of his own. Sliced bread on Matt and a sit-out powerbomb on Nick! Taylor lands a Falcon Arrow on Matt for the two-count. Matt catches Taylor on the top rope, but Beretta runs up to land an avalanche German suplex! Soul food/half and half combination from Best Friends followed by The Friendmaker! Cassidy hits a dive on The Young Bucks before rolling Matt back in! Just as Best Friends seemed on the verge of a pinfall victory, Nick breaks it up! Beretta tags in Taylor. Matt rolls through the Doomsday Knee and a Superkick Party proceeds! Matt dives onto Beretta and Cassidy on the outside! More Bang for Your Buck for the 1… 2… 3!

Winners: The Young Bucks

Matt takes the microphone post-match, saying that The Young Bucks accept Santana and Ortiz’s challenge to a match at Full Gear!

The show cuts to a video package featuring Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., who will be representing “Brittsburgh” tonight.

Match 5: Jamie Hayter vs. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.

Hayter starts the match off with vicious strikes. Baker starts to fight back, only for Hayter to quickly resume control. The action spills to the outside, where Hayter continues her attack. Hayter whips Baker into the barricade, but Baker fires back with a sling blade as the show cuts to commercial. The show returns to Hayter and Baker exchanging strikes, with the latter getting the upper hand. Hayter cinches in the sleeper hold, but Baker drops back! Baker lands another sling blade! 1… 2… Hayter kicks out!

Hayter lands a Michinoku Driver for the two-count. Hayter lands a running knee, but once again, Baker kicks out at two. Off the top rope, Baker hits an avalanche brainbuster. Hayter lands a big lariat for another two-count. Baker lands a superkick, followed by a cutter, and then a swinging neckbreaker! 1… 2… Hayter kicks out! Baker finishes the match with a superkick followed by Lockjaw for the submission victory!

Winner: Britt Baker

Following the match, Hayter is interviewed backstage. From out of nowhere, however, she is attacked by Brandi Rhodes, who lays her out before storming away.

Match 6: Jon Moxley vs. PAC

Before the match proper can begin, PAC attacks Moxley during his entrance! PAC chokes Moxley with his own entrance jacket before sending him into the barricade. The match officially begins, and PAC goes for the Black Arrow early, but Moxley rolls to the outside. PAC hits an over-the-top moonsault! Back in the ring, PAC maintains control, hitting a series of kicks followed by a running basement dropkick. PAC chokes Moxley with his boot in the corner as we cut to commercial.

The show returns to PAC silencing a potential Moxley comeback with a roundhouse kicks to the head. Moxley rolls to the apron and PAC goes for a German suplex. Moxley escapes and hits a reverse bulldog, head first, on the apron! Moxley starts to fight back, hitting a massive clothesline on PAC! Moxley follows up with a slam for a two-count. Moxley lands a suicide dive! Black Hole Slam from Moxley for another two-count! Moxley lands a knee to the head for yet another near-fall.

PAC catches Moxley on the top turnbuckle with an avalanche Falcon Arrow! 1… 2… Moxley kicks out! Moxley rolls up PAC, to which PAC kicks out at two. Moxley is sent to the outside by PAC, who hits a 450 splash from the apron! Back in the ring, PAC misses the Black Arrow. Paradigm Shift on PAC! 1… 2… PAC kicks out! Before Moxley can go for another cover, we reach a time-limit draw!

A frustrated Moxley lays out the official with the Paradigm Shift! Moxley curses in the ring as this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite comes to a close.
