AEW Dynamite Diatribe for 10/16/19 (Allin vs Jericho)

Following a victory over Jimmy Havoc on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Darby Allin squares off against Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship tonight! We will also see the AEW Women’s World Championship on the line as titleholder Riho takes on challenger Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. All this, and more, in the Dynamite Diatribe!

Coming from The Licarous Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the show kicks off with tag team action! Before SoCal Uncensored’s Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian can get to the ring, they are attacked by Lucha Brothers, Pentagon Jr., and Rey Fenix! Pentagon package piledrives Daniels on the ramp! Fenix is about to do the same to Kazarian until Scorpio Sky rushes to the aid of his partners. Officials load Daniels on a stretcher while Sky offers to take his place in this tag team match!

Match 1: SoCal Uncensored (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) (First Round Tournament Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship)

Kazarian starts the match fast by attacking Taylor in the corner. Taylor takes control and tags in Beretta, Best Friends landing an assisted cutter for the two-count. Taylor lands a piledriver and Beretta executes a Shining Wizard. Kazarian is dumped to the outside while Best Friends focus on Sky, Taylor biting on his foot. They return their focus on Kazarian, attacking him on the outside. Back in the ring, Beretta continues the attack on Kazarian. Best Friends land an assisted superplex on Kazarian for the two-count.

Kazarian makes the tag to Sky, who attacks both members of Best Friends with swiftness. Best Friends are dumped to the outside. As Sky continues, Taylor extracts him to the outside as well. Taylor goes for the diving senton, but accidentally hits Beretta! Kazarian nails a diving hurricanrana on Taylor! Sky lands a tope of his own on Best Friends to the ovation of the crowd! Tandem offense from SCU only gets a two-count. Sky hits Beretta with a jumping back elbow before tagging Kazarian, who hits a leg drop on Beretta. Soul food/half nelson combination from Best Friends! Sky interrupts a hug attempt by attacking Best Friends. Tandem offense sends Sky to the outside before Best Friends exchange an embrace to the adulation of the crowd.

Doomsday Knee from Best Friends is only good for a two-count! Kazarian escapes a piledriver attempt from Beretta as Sky sends Taylor into the barricade. SoCal Uncensored hit a powerbomb/dropkick combo for the 1… 2… 3!

Following the commercial, the second tag team match of the night begins.

Match 2: Santana and Ortiz vs. John Silver and Alex Reynolds

Santana takes advantage of the cocky Silver early on. Santana hits the running back elbow before tagging Ortiz, both men executing tandem offense. Santana takes out Reynolds on the outside. Santana and Ortiz hit the Street Sweeper on Silver for the 1… 2… 3!

Winners: Santana and Ortiz

Following the match, AEW World Champion Chris Jericho appears on the tron. Jericho says that Santana and Ortiz want to beat the crap out of The Young Bucks, issuing a challenge to them at Full Gear on November 9th.

The show shifts to a segment featuring Cody, specifically his focus on the AEW World Championship. Brandi Rhodes, mother Michelle Runnels, and Diamond Dallas Page talk about his drive. Maxwell Jacob Friedman says that not being the champion bothers Cody. Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone offer their thoughts as well. Cody will challenge for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear.

Match 3: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Riho (c) (AEW Women’s World Championship)

The match begins with a clean break. Baker takes control with several takedowns, with Riho making her way to the ropes. Baker goes for Lockjaw, her submission finisher, but Riho once again makes it to the ropes. Riho blocks a superplex attempt and hits a flying crossbody. Baker goes through for a pin attempt, which Riho bridges out of. Riho nails Baker with a low dropkick. Riho hits a standing double stomp! Riho executes a running jumping knee in the corner followed by a snap suplex. Baker evades a diving stomp and hits Riho with a sling blade. Baker lands a TKO followed by a running single leg dropkick for a two-count.

Riho goes for roll-up attempts, but Baker hits the swinging fisherman’s neckbreaker followed by a stiff kick! 1… 2… Riho kicks out! Riho evades a ripcord clothesline! Riho locks in a single leg Boston crab, Baker slowly making her way to the ropes! Riho quickly follows up with a diving double stomp for a two-count! Riho lands the double knee strike for another two-count! Riho misses a running knee strike, to which Baker responds with a ripcord elbow. Baker lands the neckbreaker followed by Lockjaw! Riho shifts into a pin! 1… 2… 3!

Match 4: Jurassic Express (Marko Stunt and Jungle Boy) vs. Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix) (First Round Tournament Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship)

With Luchasaurus out with an injury, Marko Stunt will take his place in this match.

Stunt and Pentagon kick things off in this match. Pentagon shoves Stunt in the ropes, to which Stunt responds with a shove of his own and a floss. Pentagon throws his glove at Jungle Boy. Stunt bites the hand of Pentagon before hitting an assisted hurricanrana! Stunt lands a DDT on Fenix! Jungle Boy hits a DDT of his own on Pentagon! Stunt and Jungle Boy land stereo dives on Lucha Brothers! Dual offense on Pentagon for the two-count! Stunt tags in Jungle Boy, who hits a German suplex on Pentagon for another two-count. Jungle Boy tags in Stunt, who is caught with a superkick by Pentagon!

Pentagon tags in Fenix, who is nailed with a pump kick by Jungle Boy. Fenix hits an enziguri on Stunt followed by an arm drag on Jungle Boy! Fenix dives on Jungle Boy on the outside. Pentagon hits the pump handle driver on Stunt! 1… 2… Stunt kicks out! As we come back from commercial, Pentagon remains in control of Stunt. Stunt evades a corner attack and catches Pentagon with an enziguri! Stunt finally gets the tag on Jungle Boy while Pentagon tags in Fenix. Jungle Boy hits a reverse DDT on Pentagon before landing a reverse suplex on Fenix.

Stunt hits a 450 splash on Fenix, with Jungle Boy following up with a standing shooting star, for a two-count! Jungle Boy tags in Stunt. Pentagon interferes as Lucha Brothers take control again. Pentagon swings Stunt by the hair before slamming him to the mat. Pentagon hits the arm breaker and Lucha Brothers execute a double stomp into a package driver on Stunt for the 1… 2… 3!

Match 5: PAC and Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega

As the match begins, Omega attacks Moxley, with PAC and Page going at it on the outside. Moxley takes control with a big clothesline from the corner. PAC tags himself in, hitting an enziguri on Page. Omega hits the standing leg drop on PAC. Moxley tags himself in as he attacks Omega in the corner. Moxley continues the attack, hitting a kitchen sink knee strike on Omega. As Omega gains control, he tags in Page, who attacks both opponents. Page hits a flying cross body on PAC before landing a flying lariat on Moxley for the two-count.

Moxley escapes a Dead Eye attempt but is kicked to the outside by Page. PAC distracts Page on the apron long enough for Moxley to push Page off, causing him to crash on the apron and crumble to the match. The show returns from commercial with Moxley maintaining control of Page, hooking in the cloverleaf. Omega intervenes, which brings PAC out to toss him to the outside. Page hits a big lariat! Moxley tags in PAC while Page tags in Omega. Off the hot tag, Omega hits a moonsault off the second rope! Omega hits snap suplexes on Moxley and PAC. Omega hits PAC on the outside with a big tope! Moxley hits a suicide dive on Omega and PAC!

Page nails a flying moonsault to the outside to a loud “AEW” chant from the crowd.

Omega tags in Page. Omega hits PAC with a buckle bomb and Page concludes with a standing shooting star press. The match comes down to Omega and PAC, the latter of whom hits a slingshot cutter. Page dumps PAC to the outside and Page follows up with a suicide dive! In the center of the ring, Omega and Moxley exchange strikes, including chops and headbutts. Omega hits the trigger knee but Moxley responds with a giant clothesline! They roll to the outside, bringing out barbed wire weapons. They reenter the ring, but PAC breaks up the encounter by disarming both men to not risk a disqualification. In response, Moxley flips off PAC and nails the Paradigm Shift before storming out!

Page nails PAC with a Buckshot Lariat and Omega follows up with the V-Trigger! Pag hits PAC with the Dead Eye for the 1… 2… 3!

Winners: Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega

Following their fallout in their tag team match, PAC and Moxley will square off next week!

Match 6: Darby Allin vs. Chris Jericho (c) (Philadelphia Street Fight for the AEW World Championship)

Allin starts the match fast, hitting a dropkick followed by a series of mounted strikes on Jericho. Allin clotheslines the champion out of the ring before following up with a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Jericho takes advantage, hitting a back suplex on Allin. Jericho hits a corner clothesline to the back of Allin. Allin takes advantage with a series of strikes followed by a Yoshi Tonic for the two-count. Jericho quickly takes control with a clothesline. Jericho tosses Allin into the corner, causing him to fly out of the ring as we cut to commercial.

The match continues with Jericho in control, using a kendo stick to administer punishment on Allin. Jericho goes with a jumping kendo stick strike, but Allin fights back, rolling him up with a crucifix pin. Now it’s Allin’s turn to use the kendo stick, as he strikes Jericho before hitting a springboard splash. Allin cinches in the Fujiwara armbar, to which Jericho reverses with a Walls of Jericho, Allin quickly crawling to the ropes. After arguing with the official, Jericho is hit with the kendo stick by Allin, who follows up with a flying crossbody.

Jericho nails the Codebreaker! 1… 2… Allin grabs the rope!

Jericho grabs a steel chair and nails Allin across the back. Jericho props the chair between the top and middle turnbuckles. Jericho goes to launch Allin, who counters with a stunner! Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho! Once again, Allin grabs the bottom rope. Jericho grabs a roll of duct tape and tapes Allin’s wrists behind his back. Jericho slaps Allin across the face and tosses him from one side of the ring to the next. Allin starts to fight back, hitting a springboard moonsault behind his back! Jericho rolls to the outside, but Allin hits a no-hands tope! Allin climbs to the rope and hits a diving splash! 1… 2… Jericho kicks out!

Jericho grabs Allin’s skateboard and hits Allin with an underhook powerbomb across it! 1… 2… Allin kicks out! Allin dropkicks Jericho’s steel chair into his face before climbing back to the top rope. Behind the official’s back, Jake Hager attacks Allin! This allows Jericho to lock in the Walls of Jericho, this time scoring the submission victory!

Winner: Chris Jericho

Hager joins Jericho in the ring to celebrate. Santana, Ortiz, and Sammy Guevara join them with “a little bit of the bubbly” to close out this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
