Welcome back to the NJPW STRONG Synopsis, your weekly breakdown of the goings-on in the NJPW LA Dojo. This week sees the final new episode of NJPW STRONG for 2022. It’s been a year of ups and downs and twists and turns.

We’ve seen the ascent of Fred Rosser, the arrival of the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships, and the end of Ren Narita’s excursion, just to name a few. But what surprises could be in store for the final episode of 2022? Who might enter 2023 with the momentum of a year-ending win behind them? And who might leave 2022 with the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship? We’ll find out on this year-end episode of NJPW STRONG Synopsis for 12/24/22!

Mascara Dorada & Lince Dorado vs C4 (Cody Chhun & Guillermo Rosas)

One of the highlights of NJPW STRONG over the past few months has been their partnership with CMLL. Mascara Dorada and Misterioso’s feud over the right to challenge CMLL legend Mistico brought some of the best Lucha Libre action to the NJPW STRONG ring.

This week, we’ll get one last taste of lucha action for 2022 as Lince Dorado makes his NJPW STRONG debut. The Golden Lynx will be teaming up with former Lucha House Party partner Mascara Dorada to face Cody Chhun and Guillermo Rosas. C4 came together as a team in 2019, but the COVID-19 Pandemic posed a major challenge to their growth and development as a team.

Chhun and Rosas reunited early in 2022, with this second run bringing them the distinction of inaugural Prestige Wrestling Tag Team Champions. While Cody Chhun has made some appearances with NJPW STRONG, Saturday also marks the debut of Guillermo Rosas. C4 will certainly be looking to have an explosive debut match, and who better to bring that out than Mascara Dorada and Lince Dorado?

Kevin Blackwood vs. Bobby Fish

From lucha libre, we transition to technical wrestling and another year-end NJPW STRONG debut. Rising star Kevin Blackwood takes on the newest member of Team Filthy, Bobby Fish. A former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion and NXT Tag Team Champion, this Saturday night marks Fish’s first NJPW match in six years.

Since his release from WWE, Bobby Fish has become the sparring partner of Team Filthy’s leader and former NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Tom Lawlor. This match may be considered a rematch by some, as Fish and Blackwood tangled at Black Label Pro’s Turbo Graps 24 in September.

Bobby Fish emerged victorious that night, but can he make it 2-0 against Blackwood this Saturday night? Or will Kevin Blackwood put a halt to Bobby Fish’s momentum before it even gets going?

Fred Rosser (c) vs. JR Kratos –
NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship

The ascent of Fred Rosser in 2022 has been marked by his battles with Team Filthy. As “Mr. No Days Off” encroached on Tom Lawlor’s NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship, “The Filthy One” put his men in Rosser’s way at every turn.

Rosser eventually worked his way through the Team Filthy ranks to earn his championship match with Lawlor at Collision in June. However, his battles with Team Filthy aren’t over yet. Over the past few months, we’ve seen a developing bond between Team Filthy and BULLET CLUB.

Rosser’s last match saw him suffer a singles loss at the hands of “Switchblade” Jay White, who seemed to be setting up JR Kratos as Rosser’s next challenger. The biggest, meanest member of Team Filthy brings a powerful style to the ring, promising a particularly violent encounter on Saturday night.

However, Rosser has plenty of experience against “Most Feared” JR Kratos in tag team action. While JR Kratos looks to brute force his way to the championship, Fred Rosser’s prior knowledge might just lead to another victory for the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship.
