Matt Sydal, who has wrestled all over the world since leaving WWE, is returning to EVOLVE. And due to WWE’s relationship with the superstar-churning independent company, Sydal gets to resurrect his old gimmick. As stated on EVOLVE’s official website:
Evan Bourne was one of the WWE’s most exciting stars. He was known for his spectacular “Air Bourne” finisher of the top rope. He rose to being WWE Tag Team Champions along with Kofi Kingston. Bourne’s last match was in 2013 and he parted ways with WWE in 2014. He competed as Matt Sydal, but the Evan Bourne name and persona was retired.
Bourne now wants to make a comeback. EVOLVE’s connection to NXT allows him to revive the “Evan Bourne” name and precision style that thrilled WWE audiences.
“There has never been a more ideal moment for Evan Bourne to return,” Bourne said, “I’m thankful for this rebirth. I’m thrilled for this opportunity and will open everyone’s eyes to EVOLVE. On November 9th and 10th, come see what I’m saying.
Overall, this may be an interesting move on EVOLVE’s part as we continue to move through this current climate in pro wrestling. Bourne will be on the card for November 9th and 10th in New York, December 6th in Livonia, Michigan, and December 7th in Chicago. Will there be an eventual appearance on NXT? Caul’s Call
Matt Sydal has always been very entertaining over the years. Some of his best matches have taken place since leaving WWE. But with Evan Bourne back, it could mean something big to come.
One, this is a big coup for EVOLVE as right now we could get some interesting matchups. Austin Theory? Josh Briggs? Maybe Kassius Ohno? WWE will be hard-pressed on passing up bringing Bourne to NXT. It may not be the best pickup but any return would be pivotal. Right, John Morrison?
